Same technique many times for false albacore. You can't strip too fast for those buggers.

122. Re: Prokote
1st time using Prokote as we speak.
I have had a rod sitting in storage for 8+ years. This was a rehab blank that I painted and coated with Permagloss about 14 years ago. For some reason, while in storage, a few of the guide wraps lifted from the blank. This was only the epoxy at the ends and not the wraps themselves. So I carefully did a little shaving with a blade to remove any "fla

I'm not sure why a customer would request NCP black?
Anyway, there is no need for NCP black if all you want is black. Regular nylon black stays it's color, unlike other plain nylon colors. If you want black, use plain nylon.

If you're ordering the blank with the tt, ask the supplier to fit it for you.

When I'm trout, drum, flounder (and similar) fishing I use a P904 about 75% of the time. I'm typically fishing 10# line & 1/4-1/2oz jigs/lures. I have it set up for casting with a simple spiral. It's my go-to and I absolutely love it.

Or if you're anywhere remotely close to Oviedo, just drive to their showroom and pick some up.

This conversation can be very overwhelming for the beginner to understand. Just look at the answers above, and the ones that will surely follow. There are so many ways to do a spiral that is mind boggling if you're trying to grasp the concept for the first time.
The easiest way to achieve what you're looking to do is the "Simple Spiral". Search this page for those words. It rea

Just stick with the MHX rod...it's fine on quality & price. My favorite rod to use for my fishing is an MHX.

I sort of progressed in a similar manner. Flex coat for a handful of rods, and then decided to try another brand...LS Supreme. It didn't work for me either. Again, no fault of the product. As Tom said...each product has it's own properties. I'm a firm believer of finding the product that works for your style...not trying to change your style to get the product to work. I think I stuck with

130. Re: Ferrule wrap
I will concure with using white thread, black thread for a black blank, or a very short wrap for insurance. You don't have to use a contrasting color to do the ferrule wrap. I even tend to do a clear/black wrap on the bumper guides when I do a spiral wrap...just so it doesn't stick out too much to the eye.

I would use the product made for the job. Google is your friend. They might even stock the Flex Coat brand in a store like Walmart. Do an internet search in your general area for tackle shops, etc. Call some and ask if they have any of the correct product, or if they know where you can get it. I'm sure you can come up with the correct product if you look.

Good decision. I always figure that the best product for the job is the product made for that job.

Yep. Use .25"id cork on mandrels & use the spade bits with .25" pilots. Fast & easy. Minimal reaming required to fit the grip.

134. Re: light-cure epoxy
Awesome! I'm on Harkers Island about an hour east of you. I currently commute here once a week from Charleston until we can get a house there sold & get back here on a more permanent situation. I'm not currently building, but I'm sure you can understand (everything is packed up). That should change in a few months...God willing. My family has a restaurant here, but I don't want to break

Mr. Ken, not to highjack...but where in NC have you moved?

I would put it in a warm spot/room and leave it for another day.
Could it be a bad mix? Sure. Even though you mixed well, it could have been a missed spot on the side of the mixing cup that didn't get scraped, or the bottom/corners that didn't get scraped.
Just put the rod in a warm spot and leave it a little while longer. It may all turn out ok.
PS...if you have one of those small

138. Re: 2 piece wrapping
Think about this logically. When you apply epoxy to your guide wraps it goes & stays exactly where you put it. It's not going to run. Put the 2-piece blank together, apply the epoxy, let it turn, and never look back. There really isn't a need for special tools or techniques.

139. Re: fiberglass resin
Again, not the product for the job...but should work for a last minute repair that HAS to be done NOW. I would strip it when time allowed and properly repair later.
You say "resin", but there are resins that are not waterproof.
I would suggest using epoxy resin that was developed for rod building.

I would think that it's always best to re-coat the entire wrap...not just touch up streaks. That's probably where your issue stemmed from

Great news, Mark. Success is always sweet. But the best part is the experience you'll carry forward to future projects.

Good idea...especially if you're planning a re-wrap anyway. Single bevel razor, shallow slice parallel with the surface. You'll end up with flat spots, but a light sand & your epoxy will likely level it back out. Worth a try for sure.

I wouldn't mind the LDBs, but they stop at size 6. I typically would need up to 10s & maybe 12s.

146. Kigan/Hydra Question
I don't see the DB guides on your site. These are the Power Oval (egg shaped) guides. Are they still around? Thanks.
Forum: rodboard 7 years ago

OK...so to keep from starting another thread...what about the DB Power Ovals? I don't see that on the Angler's Research site either. Are they still around?
Dear Lord...Fuji...what's up? Can't find the Power Ovals (that may just be my own fault), no more LBs...no RSGs (not that you need those often, but I used to go through a few dozen a year).

Answered my own question I believe. I had been Googling "LB" single foot Fuji...I finally Googled "LBSG" and came up with something. The poster on another forum said they had been discontinued. I have a picture in the link below (picture only...not a link to another forum).
EDIT: That link has the name of another forum as the link. Sorry, I don't know how to change

Nope...they aren't in the AR catalog...which is why I figured they had stopped manufacturing them(or at the very least, stopped importing them).
Hopefully Jim Ising will chime in.
