Mahalo Nui Loa for your response Tom. I suspect that if the blanks were discontinued back in the early 90's that his recently purchased NEW trolling rods may not be Loomis. But if they are new old stock---lucky him.

Aloha everyone. My brother-in-law purchased 2 trolling rods made on Loomis blanks- or so he was told. His rods got scraped and the black paint got scratched off revealing white blanks. Did Loomis ever make white trolling blanks? If so, were these blanks made recently? Mahalo for any responses.

Aloha. I've had these on a 12' Sage spinning rod for about 7-10(?) years now. Except for bending a couple of the size 8 single foots and then bending them back into shape they have performed perfectly. I'm not positive but I think the cermet ring is a bit thinner than the SIC ring. The titanium frames are still perfect- no corrosion in our salt air. It seems to be "quieter" when using

The long rods used on the piers here in Hawaii are almost exclusively telescoping rods. Most are made in Asia with the best ones coming from Japan. They range in price from $175.00-$1000.00+. Some people here create their own by attaching guides to telescoping or sectioned handpoles. All sectioned handpoles I have seen here come from Japan or Korea. Hope this sheds some light on the subject.

Aloha. Is there any VHS value of the "Cermet" ring available? Mahalo.

Fran- I suspect that the blank must be from the 70's. None of my Fenwick brochures from '81-'91 have that blank listed and the SH1262 was listed as "new" in the '81 brochure. Like Mike replied earlier "till graphite blanks took over".

You are ALL blessed. Mine usually comes 3 weeks to a month later but it's always worth it when it arrives. Mahalo Nui Loa for a great publication Tom. Aloha.

Aloha Everyone. Started building in '84 at the age of 24. There's some improvement but not a WHOLE lot. Started on Fenwicks and Sabres. Still have some of them in use. Hard to beat the feeling of catching fish on a rod you built yourself with bait you caught yourself.

There is also National Brand thread. They have some "neon" colored threads. Only thing is I've seen only D sized thread and am not sure if A sized thread is available. Aloha.

Aloha Travis. Lobster season is closed on all islands from 00:00hours 01 May thru 23:59hours 31 August. All other months are open season for lobster except for minimum sizes and none with eggs may be taken at any time. Do a "search" for Nic Barca's site, it's full of shorefishing information on the island of Kauai. Not sure where to find additional info on offshore fishing. Shorefi

Aloha Tom, When you say "Locate the intersect guide so that its top edge just touches the edge of the table." do you mean the edge of the eye closest to or farthest from the rod blank in a spinning rod setup situation? Mahalo.

I use 10lb white PowerPro. Lasts forever, easy to find, no visible residue. Have 6 loops at least 2 years old. Aloha

Aloha Tom. I build rods on steelhead blanks in lengths similar to the one you're building. On 13' rods I've ended up with 13 guides, 14' with 14 guides. I use progressive spacing as Tom mentioned and combine that with static testing. On my last 13' I used 11 guides from the tip to the choke guide then 2 guides from the reel spool to the choke guide.

I've prepped my titanium guide feet using a bench grinder. Move quickly so as not to take off too much material and also not to overheat. Then I polish the feet with a wire wheel. When I first used these guides years ago I got too aggressive with the grinder and made several "UNPLANNED" foot shortenings and reshapings, but for the last 12 years or so, no mistakes or problems with the

Aloha Shawn. Even after perfect alignment dots my centers tend to veer off slightly to one side or the other. I haven't been able to determine if it's due to wrap tension or some other cause (my lack of talent, etc.), but I do end up straightening the wraps out before completion. They're not off by too much though. Mark

Aloha. I attached a clear adhesive metric ruler to the angle iron and just mark off the alignment dots when the angle iron rests on the blank. Works for me. Mark

Aloha. Mine usually arrives 2 weeks after the due date. One of the few reasons NOT "lucky to live in Hawaii". Just have to wait patiently. Mark
