Here's my take on singles VS doubles. Single foots can be used and will be able to handle the stress put on them in fishing situations. What the smaller higher framed single foots CAN'T handle is abuse when moving the rod around. While you can bend them back into shape, you will tire of having to do this.

If you are desiring an exact match may I suggest sending your rod to CTS so they can physically see the taper and try their best to match the prototype. It costs money to ship to New Zealand but the outcome may be worth it.

Better with the Old gold under the garnet. No CP to get the candy apple effect.

I have used Interline rods for smaller fish - up to 12lbs. I have been using them for about 15 years. If you use the cheaper rods, you may end up with some problems such as grooving of the inner collector or the ceramic in the tip breaking. If you travel up the road in the cost of the rods you won't encounter these problems. If you follow the manufacturers directions on flushing out the rod b

Aloha Chris. From my experience with all 3 of the Ballistics, none of them are suitable for slide bait in Hawaii waters. The 35 you are planning to wrap can throw 8oz but to me, 6-7oz is perfect. While casting on Christmas Island the 40 couldn't handle a 70lb GT. The reel would have been emptied at a lighter drag setting OR the rod would have snapped IF we didn't point the rod at the fish w

Splice a hollow core line onto your solid braid main line. Splice a loop onto the hollow core end. Purchase or make your own wind on leaders in the sizes you want. Join the main line and wind on leader with a loop to loop connection. May not be the cheapest option but it is a smooth and strong connection.

Try emailing Daiwa. They probably have them in stock. I got a replacement butt cap for my Ballistic from them.

I just used the Amtak Virtus Ring locks on a 8 1/2 plugging rod. Took a little guide prep and the guide feet on the size 16 near the tip end seemed a bit wide for the blank. This blank is a supposed PE 12 blank. Test casting today and wrapping up in the next few days. My guides at the tip end are size 16 because this rod will be primarily used with 400lb mono/fluorocarbon wind on leaders. The

Hmmmm. I thought SP stood for Spinning. SS was for SurfStik. I'm probably mixed up. I do have 3 of the SS blanks customized right now and 1 SS1385 unmolested tip section and 1 broken SS1081. Mine all have graphite butts with E-glass tips. Wouldn't the SP be GSP if it was a graphite blank?

Those SS blanks are still VERY desireable. Those were made into the Big SurfStik by Fenwick. Graphite butts with fenglass tips.

I don't think the guide ring materials of almost 99% of the guides manufactured today will be an issue. The rings mentioned are tough and will all dissapate heat well. It's the guide frame composition that will make all the difference.

Another 3pc blank that I can think of that's capable of casting that weight range is CCP, Carolina Cast Pro. But not even close to $100.

I agree with the above post. Build with ALL the best and then USE what you build. None of my rods will only be a mantle piece.

All the titanium "coated" guides I have ever used from the different manufacturers have rusted/corroded over time IF not taken care of. They usually start rusting after 1-2 years. I purposely didn't rinse off several rods that I use all the time just to see if one companies guides survived better than another. They were all the same,,,,usually cracking near the ring area. I am not

Charley's Fishing Supply in Kakaako has really well made stainless butt caps. Take the rod there and fit to size.

You can make a Laker's rod......but it won't catch any fishes. Now, if you made a Celtic's rod..................LOL.

Just a short note. If you use 300lb wind on leaders with a loop to loop like we do for our type of GT fishing here in Hawaii, the size 12 may be too small for the wind on to pass through easily. The serve hangs up quite often when casting, shortening your cast. I know you probably won't be using 300lb leaders but just a tip regarding line size and guides.

After about 1 year my Purple HT Metallic faded to silver. This happened on several rods. Some had color preserver, some didn't. Finishes used were U40, Classic Coal, and Threadmaster. The purple was used as trim, under, and over wraps. Deco wraps too.
