Need to put together a 6ft White Marlin Rod to fish TLD25's with 20-30lb test on it. Without having to trim 7ft blanks...is the GF600H the way to go? It's rated for 25-40lb test. Any other suggestions? Something in the RCLB lineup?

You can save some space by attaching a benchdog router table to the side of your table saw(mine is the Dewalt DW746)....which is what I did. I mounted a porter cable 7518 router in it. I also bought a disc sander that fits in place of your table saw blade. Double sided with 2 different grits. If space is not an option....the more the merrier! I prefer WOOD magazine. They usually have some

Well.....Thanks for all the ideas, opinions and processes. I chose to use Rufus' method.....and guess what......it worked fine. Scuffed the old epoxy, and coated with a coat of new epoxy. Rod looks new again.

I used a MHX9600 but they also make a 9000. Line weight is 6-12 and lure weight is 1/16-3/8. Works well for throwing unweighted crabs at permit. Used with the new Powerpro Super 8 (super slick) line...you can cast across the ocean.

Maybe some mroe information could benefit....A heavy saltwater spinning rod came to me with a cracked BNLG size 40 stripepr guide. The insert fell out. It appears the rod has had some work done to it prior, since the first three guides don't match the last 4 guides (different rings but still FUJI). The whole rod is black, threads, overwraps, underwraps, etc. My guess is that the first "fixer

Phil....take a look at these. These look to be coated from tip to forecheck/grip. I don't use much permagloss, but the finish here doesn't look permaglossy?

How does everyone coat the entire rod with epoxy? I've seen heavy saltwater/offshore rods with epoxy from tip to forecheck (no blank exposed). I'm using a pacbay power wrapper and am scratching my head on how to do this without the roller/supports getting in the way. Anyone? What kind of drying system is used?

Here is a black size 40 Fuji Guide that needs to be replaced. What kind of FUJI guide is it? The ring material is gray in color on the guides it needs to match It is not a BSVLG.

Thanks for all the ideas. I was hoping to get away with something that doesn't require taking off the reel seat or the rear eva...both of which are fine. May have to go the shrink wrap route.

A mouse or a rat or some rodent decided to chew up this EVA handle. I guess the smell of fish guts was too much to walk away from. The rest of the rod is in good shape. It is only the foregrip that has issues. What are my options for fixing this? Are there any "fillers' out there to bring the missing chunks back up to surface level? I thought about some shrink wrap material, but not

No problem Tony. To expand on the CP topic...depending on the climate fished in........many builders don't build with smaller than an 8 or 10 guide. Fishing in upstate NY(or other cold climates) for steelhead in snowstorms and ice outs causes the guide eyes to ice over/shut. The larger the eye of the guide, the less likely it is to freeze. Some spray Pam cooking spray on them or rub chapstick

Yes Tom. I'm trying to figure out what OD EVA Foregrip to order. Some EVA foregrips have a narrow OD that is smaller than the OD of the larger realseats.

Does anyone have the OD of the non-threaded end of a size 24 Fuji DPSM Reel Seat?

I think most ring types, nano lite, alconite, hardloy, sic , will hold up, it's the frame material that rusts out. Titanium is the catsass, but is also the priciest. I'll check out the alps stuff.

He is probably talking about tall frame guides. Centerpin reels, due to their diameter of 4" to 5"+ (plus the reel foot) hang down off the handle quite a bit. The taller frame guides help gather the line and keep the line on the "correct" path. Lots of CP rods are built with the sliding rings. Some guys don't even use the sliding rings and elect to use electrical tape to

Hey everybody. Got some saltwater spinning guide questions. Ive built some rods in the past that live in key west and are exposed to a harsh saltwater environment and lots of fishing. Long story short, the guide frames didn't last due to corrosion. Blanks are 20-40lb rating and line is 50lb braid. I want to use FUJI double footed guides for durability/strength. I'm pretty sure titanium fram

A) If I buy only eight blanks from a rod builder sold to me as components, should I be charged the Federal Excise Tax on each blank? B) When I buy eight blanks along with guides, grips etc, from a vendor on the left (which I have done), I don't ever recall paying the excise tax unless it was built into the price and I didn't know it. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't the rod builder be

Does anyone know what kind of blanks the Billy Baroo line of rods by Biscayne Rods uses? The specs are: B1520-7 1 Piece / LB Class = 15/20 LB / Length = 7' / Top = 6.5 / Butt = 0.650 My guess is they are made by a company and sold as Billy Baroo??

no suggestions for flossing/snagging but a Rainshadow 1562 works great for float fishing or centerpinning on the Salmon River. Different target species, different fishing method, but IMO way more effective.

Phil pretty much nailed it. Snagging and lining are both illegal on the Salmon River. Can't even buy lead any more in NY for many reasons. Maybe suggest a rod that will be used "legally". Swinging streamers, or high stick "indy" fishing for steelhead and browns on the same river. The beauty of the Salmon River is that once the Salmon are dead/gone, there is an awesome stee

Am getting ready to build my first fly rod and have a few questions that need answers. Rod blank is a 6wt, 8'6" 2 piece blank I'm thinking of using size 12 stripping guide, 4,4,4,4,3,3,3,3, tip Does this sound about right? If not...any specific formula i need to adhere to when sizing fly guides? Pros/cons of using single foot fly guides vs. the double foot snake style? Will o
