I've heard of guys spraying pam...but have never seen it. I've also heard of guys using chapstick...but have never seen it.
By the time the centerpin angler is loaded with various floats, beads, flies, jigs, 8 to 10 different sizes of shot, egg sacks in 3-4 different colors, ....a change of warm gloves, socks etc....extra spool.....a few layers of clothing.....the last thing he/she has room fo

Bill...partially correct.....not a fly rod....but the same length
Because of the extreme temperatures that steelheaders fish in....the smallest guides often freeze long before the fisher's toes, fingers or nose. It is extremely annoying, especially on a 13' 6 rod to clear guides of ice before each and every cast. Therefore, builders use larger guides (size 8's) to combat the freezing.

Robert....I've built a centerpin rod using the exact same set up you have listed....BYAG's all the way out. Didn't find a need for the BLAG's. My thought was this....by the time the line goes through 10 #8 guides...it pretty much knows where it needs to go....and that is out the tip. BLAG's might lower the guide height to put it more in line the BFAT tip...but you are talking maybe 5mm lower?

Anybody know what type of guides these are? The top 3 rows have never been used, but the bottom row has seen some action.

No particular immediate size needed. If aftco ,alps, Amtak would offer silver black....no worries.
But to buy a silver and a black alps size 18 for $35 a piece would blow most budgets

How come most manufacturers only offer aluminum reel seats in all silver, or all black, but not a combination of silver and black?
Most manufacturers have a gold/black combination available.
With reel manufacturers like Avet, accurate, penn customs etc. offering silver as a color option it sure would be nice to have another choice in aluminum reel seats available. Anyone else feel my pain?

103. Re: MHX decal
Hard to explain, but I put on decal like a bandaid with two pieces of decal backing. This keeps me from having finger prints anywhere on the decal. I hold the decal on its edges and slide a scrap price of backing inbetween the decal and its backing. Then peel off original backing and use it to grab the free end. Now you should have a decal suspended in the middle by two prices of backing. Make s

Not familiar with a hardy silex.....but will look at it.
Look for a Milner, Paine falls, islander, mykiss, to name a few. Some have a "clicker" button I keep the reel from spinning during travel.
A centerpin has no drag whatsoever....and no lever to put into free spool cause its always in freespool.

A center pin reel......picture a 4.5" or 5" fly reel that has zero drag. The reel runs on bearings or bushings and has zero drag. What this allows, along with a long rod, is for the bait to have a compete natural drift. Long rod allows for line to stay off the water. And also allows for a lite leader to be used to fight the fish...due to soft tip. The current takes the bai at the same

How does the 1/4" tape ensure a perpendicular cut to the blank?
Forum: rodboard 11 years ago

Here's the deal. I've got a 6ft Gaff blank that has some taper to it. My goal is this - To make it a 4 piece Gaff blank that will screw together.....don't ask me how yet. Here's MY issue. Due to the taper....how do I ensure that my cut will be perpendicular to the blank?
If I use a chop saw...and place the blank against the back rest...I won't get a 90 degree cut.....due to the taper.

What size Aluminum gimbal will provide a smooth transition to an 8" smooth/slick butt? Description says the bottom OD of the slick butt is 1 3/8" and to use a size 4 gimbal with an OD of 1 1/4"
Products are AMTAK.
Is this the best fit?
Anyone else wish the slick/smooth butt would come with 2 trim rings as opposed one?

Can the Flexcoat slip clutch be tightened up? Seems on rods that have bigger guides, the clutch doesn't stick enough when turning on the dryer leaving the guides on the bottom while the motor is still turning....
Hope this makes sense.

120. Re: Mystery Blank
John
Most of Those mystery blanks were from Advanced Tubular Composite (ATC). A quick (very quick) google search turned up a few ATC results. I didn't spend the time to find any blank specs.
If Scott Parsons reads this...he might be able to post up the sheets that were hanging from the blue barrells. A tip measurement and butt measurement comparison might get you close.
