Marc, If I was to build this rod for myself, I would guide the rod using American Tackle Micro Wave MW50 guides. Surf fishing is all about distance casting with a 11' rod. These guides really do tame line slap and allow the line to flow smoothly thru the guides. A size 20 Fuji pipe reel seat and some 3M (1" wide) Safety Walk black tape for the grip material will make this a lite weight fish

Is there a window under the reel seat also, near the trigger?

I never use a tape measure when deciding where a real seat should be. A white China Marker is all I need to layout the grips and realseat. If I were to copy to a file, then I would measure my layout and transfer to paper. We all don't wear size 40 short.

Thanks Spenc, but as Marc stated it still needs a sleeve if your not lucky enough to have the seat fit the blank where you want it. The smaller seats have a "touch" window. I have no need for that.

Marc, I'm with you on this. Wish Fuji made the size 18 in a full body seat.I had to sleeve the seat with a scrap piece of blank before mounting the actual blank.

Strip it down just for the blank and guides, then build it the way you want.

Roger's repair is the most economical and still functional way to handle this task. I would not even remove the nut, just tighten the reelseat and tape over it. If the owner is not emotionally attached to this rod you can cut the reelseat clean through in half. The rod is now in two pieces. Remove the scrap reelseat. Using a new reelseat and arbors or sleeve, glue everything back togeather. When

Lynn, You are correct ,Wavespin guides were sold by Swampland for Castaway in 2011 and you only got two in a package for $18.75. I still have a few sets that I ordered from Bill Stevens. If anyone would like to read a little history of these guides, do a search for WaveSpin guides by Bill Stevens(2011).

Caleb, Yea, an air brush is the ticket. I can only do that when its warm, in my garage,so that's why I use the foam brush method. Post some pictures when you get a good one. Try the BLACK PEARL, it looks like raw carbon when its dry.

You want sensitivity, bring back the old interline rods, where the line runs thru the blank.

Caleb, Have you tried air brush paint? I use Createx Auto Air paint with a foam brush to refinish old blanks that have been scraped and sanded of all its old paint and finish. I have had the best results with their Pearlized colors and sometimes don't even put a clear coat on them which gives them a satin finish. After painting, they must be set with a heat gun or hair dryer for a few minutes whi

Kevin, I also work in my basement for over 40 years and never had a problem with epoxy drying. Be careful with unattended heaters, I use a space heater in the winter to be comfortable, not for the finish. Stay in the basement away from the cats,Make that space yours. Try other epoxy's.

A soft piece of copper wire or a twist tie wrapped around the guide foot to help you get started, then use for the next guide.

Pro Kote has a strong odor. I have 2 (two) 64oz kits that I use sparingly only for small repairs. I also was comfortable using Pac-Bay epoxy but cant get it anymore.
