No apologizes needed. We all learn something when we ask, especially on this board. My post was on 100% pure Titanium used on guides, like stated, if there is such a thing. Good informative responses on the subject as well. Thanks. Pat Barnard

Thanks for all the posts. Michael, I understand your comments entirely. I know of a few guide manufacturers that boast 100% solid Titanium guides, marketing trick ??; maybe, but I have to agree with what Phil states: if there is such a thing as pure Titanium rod components.. Thanks again. Pat Barnard

Thanks for the reply. The reel seat is a different color, it has a nice patina to it, I think they called the color Titanium, I do know it is an aluminum seat. I have looked many places but had no luck. BTW, the customer wants to use it in 10 days. Thanks for your time and help. I will be checking back for your response. Thanks, Pat Barnard

I am in need for a Pac Bay fly reelseat uplocking # UL3-T. All I need is the hardware. A custom had the end come off and lost the hood that holds the rear reel foot. I have been told this seat has been discontinued. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks for the time. Pat Barnard

Billy, Would you happen to have the base part to one of the Clemens rod holders? I have been looking for these for sometime. This is the part that the standing arm is connected to. Thanks. Pat Barnard

I need the small 4 inch X 2 inch piece that slides along the lathe bed . It is what the rod support connects to. Thanks, Pat Barnard

Randolph, Thanks for the reply. I purchased this lathe from clemens ~ 15 years ago and this support base has no bearings or O rings. It just simply slides along the base, very simple design. Thanks, Pat B.

Does anyone have a Clemens rod support base they would like to sell? These are 4"x2". I need only the small base that slides along the lathe bed. I need two. I will post in the Wanted section as well. Tight Wraps. Pat Barnard

I have to agree with Steve, that should be fine. I use A thread for both the background and the weaving threads and have no problems. When finish is applied it appears to be painted on the blank. Good luck with your weave. Pat Barnard

I use the lathe and after the cork has dried after glueing, I leave the cork on the mandrel and push about 1/2" off the end of the mandrel and place a Forsner bit into the tail stock and slowly bring the bit into the turning cork. When bit has bottomed out, I pull another 1/2" off the end and complete the hole. Perfectly centered and clean, then push the cork grip back up the mandrel

I have a walnut insert for a fly rod and have a few minor scuffs and scratches. Both appear to be minimal. What is the correct method to buff/polish these out? Any suggestions appreciated. Pat Barnard

Mark, I have to agree with you. I know alot of anglers who use these products and from what I can tell it's more in the name than the product. Thanks for the reply, you were concise in your summation. PB

Visited the local tackle shop and got to inspect one of the "popular" rods a company here on the South Texas coast produces. These are my findings: Guides were not in alignment, several gaps in the guide threads, not enough epoxy on the guides... most guides you could feel the threads, excess glue on the cork where the seat meets the cork and on the exposed trigger area. I inspected

When one sees the amount of instruction and the level of detail in Arts' work, sharing instantly comes to mind. When I was in my infancy of learing the art I asked several of the premier 'weavers" in the area for assistance, of course they would not divulge the information needed. I understand that one learns thru trial and error and it is their perogative to share or withold techniques.

Mark, Thanks for the time and response. The information on Arts' treatise on Color change weaving and subsequent building of a weaving loom are great. I understand the Rod building community wanting to garner the enclosed information to advance in this thread art form. I have had this 'manual" for several years and from time to time still read it for its enjoyment. I am in t

I wonder if the material that I have on Weaving from Art would be something that Rodmaker would include in one of its additions or placed in the Library for all to garner the information. As I was looking thru the literature I did not see any Copyright claims, of course one would not want to get into a litigation battle over this. Maybe additional research on this is needed. Kerry, I investigated my Art Durham guide and it claims the rods had a date of 1881. One with a Chinook salmon and the other a Rainbow trout, he stated that they were done in silk as well. Hope this helps. Pat Barnard

Kerry, I have a treatise on Weaving from Art and in the contents it stated that the rod in question is now in his private collection. I have a binder of Arts' schematic of the Master weaving loom and bench he designed, he was quite an artist and the schematics were of great quality with some of the best attention to detail I have seen. Art did pass and shared his techniques in re

I purchased a Rikon from Woodcraft and I am more than pleased. I paid $250.00 on sale and they paid the pstg. It has been a great machine. Sammy Mikel put me onto this as he has one as well. There are many more out there that are more expensive with more bells and whistles, but for turning cork on a steel mandrel it does an awsome job. Whatch the Woodcraft website, they put it on sale freq

I just built one and this is the spacing I settled with: 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 3.5, 4, 4, 4.5, 8, 12-3/8. Guides are five # 6, two #7, one # 10 and one 12. The stripping guide is 471/4" from tip. All are single foot except the 12 is a double. I used static deflection as well as casting trials to get optimum results. I use this here on the Texas coast and it has become my bread and butter bla

I just recieved my recent copy of the Texas Saltwater Fishing magazine. They have an article named "Its the little things" which references the line, rods, bait, etc, etc. They make an interested comment: They claim their rods are " made of the highest quality materials that exist on the planet. Even the High end custom rod builders can't find better materials." Trying

Kerry Hanson is correct, try weaving without the Left list. I stopped many years ago and it sure simplifies things. Just slide your ruler along the pattern as you go. Good luck. Pat Barnard

I purchased the Rikon from Woodcraft on sale for $250.00. A month later they ran the Nova G3 on sale for $ 150.00 and this included 4 extra jaws of different types. I watch their site frequently and they have some good sales on lathes. BTW, this price also included the postage. Good luck in your search, Pat Barnard
