What type of thread is color preserver required on, and what type Is it not required on?
Is it a bad idea to use color preserver on guide wraps, because the epoxy will not penetrate the thread and it is not as strong?
Thanks

How do you get the guides aligned properly to the reel seat? I’ve been doing a little reading on static testing to locate the guides, and they recommend having the tip glued on to do the testing, so a weight can be hung on it. Seems like once is glued on, it is permanent, and would be very difficult to align the tip with the real seat. Thanks

Thanks for all the advice. I found angler's resource, but most of the info seems to be for spinning rods. Nevertheless, I found it helpful. I did not realize that guide nomenclature was different for spinning rods, fly rods, and casting rods, but some terms carry over between rods, this was part of my confusion. I will need to study more, as I thought the stripping guide was always the butt g

Hello, I’m building a my first rod for inshore use. Currently I have several rods, a Loomis, Kissler , and Waterloo. They all have small guides, I’m not sure if they qualify as microguides, but they are very small. At first I did not care for the small size, but over time I have actually gotten used to them and prefer them.
I have a medium heavy, fast action, 7’6” blank from NFC for the build

Diawa has a carbon fiber guide they use on their rods, and St Croix uses it on their upper end rods as well. Apparently they are not available as retail. any other manufacturers offer these to builders? Are carbon fiber guides an up and coming thing, or overhyped?

I guess my question should have been there standardization across different manufacturers of grips and seats? Or do you buy the seat, measure it, and find a grip that matches, or vice versa? I've noticed that some manufactures sell kits, this is the safest way to go, but what about mixing and matching?

So, reading between the lines, it’s not possible to get no step up\step down

Hello, I am new to rod building, and this is a novice question. I just ordered two blanks and carbon fiber grips from NFC. One of the carbon fiber grips has an OD of 25, the other has an OD of 27. Both of these measurements are at the front of the grip where it meets the reel seat. How do you get a avoid a step up or step down between the front of the grip and rear of the real seat? Can carb

74. Newbie questions
Hello, this is my first post here. I am new to rod building ( well, I built one in 1988 - but have forgotten everything). I fish in Lower Laguna Madre, where the water is shallow, and throw light plastics, occasional popping corks and bottom rigs with one ounce weights.
.
I am ordering 2 blanks from North Fork Composites, a MB 764-1, and a SJ 765-1. I am going to do spilt grips on these.
