With spinning setups the way you determine the first few guides is by reel specs and what line you plan to use . The reel will reveal what height the guides should be and the line will determine what size rings you should go with .

Great stuff Aleks , somewhat surprised you shared it however . I know how much Gary despises weight when it comes to rod blanks , he calls it the # 1 enemy of performance so it will be interesting in how he deals with the below . It may come down to the nickel metal coating on the fiber just offering such a big advantage in regards to sensitivity that it outweighs the negative aspect of slig

How about just chalking it up to a different opinion ? Just because David says he thinks the RX10 is even more sensitive than an XRAY doesn't mean everybody else thinks that way so the guy reviewing it must have screwed up or been mistaken.

After reading a lot of the information about their technology from the link you provided I can confidently say most of it is the standard manufacturers marketing jargon that is designed to get anglers attention and open their wallets . Some manufacturers come up with fancier names and explanations of their technology than their competitors but all the top rod companies are very familiar with the

Only blank manufacturer that I have literally received flawlessly straight blanks ( At least to the eye) is CTS and the most amazing part about it is they have all been surf blanks in the 10 /1/2 - 12 foot length . Don't know how they do it but it's truly remarkable .

I never readjust the tip top after setting it exactly where it should be on any particular build . I rely on the tip top to align my reel seat and guides . The first guide that goes on after the tiptop and reel seat is the collector and then the choke guide . I check alignment of the guides by running a taught piece of braid or similar line from the very bottom of the collector to the bottom of

Attaching the tip top is the first thing I do after I spine the blank and decide which way I'm going to build it and it's for visual reference more than anything else . Only after that's done do I move on to the reel seat, after the reel seat placement I move to the reduction guide decisions The static test and running guide placement is the very last thing I do.

Although the comparison below is for the Frosted silver CC frame in Alconite instead of the polished silver frame the prices of the two frame types is the same . The below shows the price differences between a KT Titanium Torzite runner in size 4.5 in comparison to a KT stainless CC frame Alconite runner in a 4.5 size . A very very large price difference as you can see .

A KT/ KB single foot in Stainless Alconite will be about $7.00 cheaper than a Titanium Torzite KT/ KB single foot . They aren't even remotely close to a $2.00 difference regardless of size.

The difference between stainless Alconite and Titanium Torzite in the smaller guide sizes is a @#$%& of a lot more than $2.00 per guide . Try $6.00 - $7.00 per guide difference. A Titanium

I built an NFC 7109 ( A 2 ounce max lure rating instead of 1 1/2 ounce lure rating of the 7108) for inshore saltwater fishing and much prefer the KR high frame single foots for that blank , KL20H, KL10H and a 5.5M and size 5 KB/KT runners and I chose those specific guide sizes based solely on what reel I'm using and my specific line choice . If I was using a heavier braid or a different reel

I don't think most people have a clue just how ridiculously overkill heavier braids are . You can pull a tree stump sunken in heavy mud off a lake bottom with 50 pound braid it's ridiculous how strong these lines are . Just make sure the knots you tie are appropriate and won't slip and you should never have the main line fail . I have seen and experienced myself more than a few times when larg

On all my builds especially spinning based surf and inshore rods I always use line that's rated considerably lighter than what manufactures list and it's not because I'm worried about heavier braid (20 pounds and up) being so strong that the rod will break before the braid does, it's solely based on the massive performance increase it provides over heavier braids. Experienced anglers will never

I personally never found any rod finish to have a strong odor . To me they all smell quite similar and not offensive in any way shape or form . I have not found any finishes that have a lower odor than others . I'm talking about finishes that are two part , I haven't used any other types.

Not familiar with that one but I bought the Xray 7109 hoping it would be to my liking for inshore saltwater like Redfish and Specks and it's much softer than I was anticipating . I was looking for more stiffness but it wasn't there.

I would LOVE to see Rod Geeks offer SCIV surf rod blanks since they have only offered SCII in the past. I much much prefer the former to the latter.

If you spend some time in the photos section the vast majority of wraps are exceedingly long including running guide wraps. Not all by any means but a lot more than I expected to see but each individual will have their own reasons for this and it's their build so to each their own as they say . Take breaks while you're wrapping and look back at what you have done so far to make sure everything i

Mark , Tom said a wrap should take 20 seconds tops and that indicates Tom was talking about the speed for which one should spend time on each wrap . My post covers exactly what he was talking about . My post is not about the video Tom linked to .

People shouldn't get confused by what Tom said . He's talking about the initial coat of finish where you want to spend as little time as necessary on each guide and keep moving along to get a coat of finish on all the guides WITHOUT needing to mix a second batch of finish due to spending way too much time on each guide . AFTER you apply the initial coat of finish on ALL the guides then you go ba

If you want to make sure you have a tip size that fits an NFC blank be sure to order one tube size up or wait to measure it once it arrives and then order. I couldn't get the listed tip size to fit either .
