Thanks everyone for the all the suggestions! It was a good detailed read. Yes I understand that in the end there'll be different ideas/theories and I like that about custom rod building I was running into the scenario Mark had replied with: Mark Talmo Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > From your description, it seems like the guide > spacing closer

Do most of you end up with uneven guide spacing when doing static load testing? Example, the guides are closer together at the peak of the bend of the rod? Or do you try to find a setting that'll have progressively increasing guide spacing as you move from the tip to the butt?

Thanks Bob. Unfortunately I can’t get a direct subscription delivery to Canada. So my plan is to order some back issues in batches to an American resshipper. Do you know what volumes the CD-5 covers? Like if I also ordered back issues volume 10 would that already be on the CD?

Been building for couple years now and love learning new ideas to implement on my rods. I build primarily bass and light freshwater fishing rods. I want to order some rodmaker magazines back issues with focus on eva grip designs / inlays, maybe other grip ideas though i don't have access to a dedicated lathe yet. Would the Special CD edition on grips (https://www.rodmakermagazine.com/pro

This info is gold!! Thanks Norm! This is a great read as i'm in a similar position as the OP. Was researching a lot on this board on the benefits of when i should be using double foot guides vs single. And i've learned there's just so many factors and opinions :) In the end will take all this info and try it out and see what fits my style of fishing

Does sound like the NEO will work fine for what i want to try it on thanks! FYI, my friend wanted to try the 7109 so guess I'll have both to compare in the end. Maybe i can try building a rig to gather some CCS info or something and share

Thanks everyone. Think the 7109 is too stiff for throwing the crank baits? My heaviest rod is MB 705 MH so i guess the 9 rated power looks on paper to be a big jump lol

Hi everyone, I'm looking to build a bass rod for bigger cranks and light swimbaits (like StrikeKing 6XD or 1.5oz swimbait). Something with mod or mod-fast action i think. Was looking at the NFC sale and wondering if anyone had comments between these two x-ray rods for this application: MB 765-1(X-Ray NEO) 7’6? - 12-25lb, 5/8oz-2oz, Mod-fast Action, MedHeavy Power MB 7109-1(X-Ray LMX) - 1

I'm in the same boat, creating my first grips. Saw the flexcoat vid as well. But what i'm going to do is just ream the butt plug hole slightly bigger and stick a coin or other personal cap.

I ordered two sets of ProKote thread finisher. Noticed in the second set, the hardener (part B) is yellow and has bunch of floating white stuff in it. I tried warming it up which made it flow better but still little bits and yellow. Any way to fix it? Read it may not look bad if i still mix and apply? or did i somehow receive an old batch or something? Right in the middle of my first ti

Texas rig yup thats what i was hoping to make a similar setup. Its a shame about the NFC delivery time and service though as some has expressed. This is my first time ordering them and unfortunately am now in the same waiting and wondering category. No replies or phone answers. Thats xray does sound nice tho i may have to find something else if want to fish it this summer ??

David if you dont mind me asking, how long did it take to receive your blanks? I've been trying to get an update from NFC on my order of some mb705-1hm since mid Feb but no one is answering. I wonder if I should switch to the xray or if that would make the order faster (I heard they make based on demand and batches?) Your setup sounds very nice. What are techniques are you throwing on thes

wow thanks everyone for all your helpful advice!! I really appreciate it. I did mix my epoxy very slowly and poured it onto a foil lined plate. No bubbles before applying. But many of you have pointed out some things that i believe will help me: 1) Don't brush the epoxy. Load the brush with more epoxy and let that do the work. I may try spatula as well just to see if it works for me 2)

Hi everyone Just finished my first rod build. Overall happy but definitely some things can be improved upon One thing I noticed when using my prokote over the threads was these micro bubbles I could see forming in the epoxy on the brush as I used it. This would sometimes then transfer to the blank. I was applying the finish on blank being spun by 9rpm dryer. Is that something wrong with t

Been trying to contact NFC but no answer yet....anyone know the tip size they used on their MB 705-1HM rod? Site specs say 4 but when I look at the guide spacing table it lists size 4.5. Wanted to order some parts today. Thanks in advance!
