And there is no such thing as centrifugal force. Inertia of the mass (epoxy) tries to send that mass in a straight line, at constant speed (Newton's Laws of Motion). Centripetal force (center seeking force), in this case molecular adhesion, holds the epoxy in place, as long as the rotational rate is slow enough to not overcome the adhesive, and viscous properties of the epoxy. I'm sorry, but j

Herb can answer this question readily. As for me, I've caught a very large Chinook (King) Salmon on a 8 weight CTS fly rod. The blank could be built with casting, or spinning guides, and have the power to do the job. CTS also offers the Baycaster rods that are available in 10' lengths. CTS can also build the rod for you.

When I worked for Lockheed, we used two part epoxy to partially fill Cannon plugs, to prevent ocean water from entering the electronics. The epoxy had an expiration date. If that date was past, the cans couldn't be used and were tossed into the trash. Our supervisor said we could take expired cans home. I took seversl pint cans of both resin and hardener home. I got mad one day and punched t

Off topic, but wanted to share. I drew out 5 point stars on plain paper, and laid a piece of parchment paper over the top. I painted stars using the visible stars from underneath, with mixed Gen 4. I colored the epoxy in three mixing cups, one red, one green, and one black. After painting on the stars, I sprinkle with glitter, and let dry for about 20 hours. I then painted a second coat, thi

Tin saltwater because it doesn't corrode, is very durable, and strong. We used it at Lockheed Titanium develops a thin oxide coating that protects it from corrosion. ON a guide though, the titanium won't corrode; however, any moisture that gets under, and into the wraps can cause degradation of the epoxy, and/or wrapping thread, which can cause problems. I would advise unsing a low build Gen

If it were me, I'd use new guides of high quality, Fuji tangle free SIC guides. I would use the existing guides as a starting point for guide placement, then do a two line static test to adjust the guide placement so the line from the reel to the tiptop equally distributes the loaf, and follows the curve of the bent blank There are youtube videos on how to do a 2 line static test. me,

For colored ends on your ice rod, you can also use wrapping epoxy with marbling pigment- . There are tutorials on how to use them available at Mudhole.com. Iwould simply mix my epocy with the desired color pigment, and brush in as i would when covering a thread wrap. Just another option.

On my last build, I used Gen 4 epoxy. light, and Kimono Superior thread, 100 weight, natural white. It gave me very nice transparent thread wraps, with no bubbles. Simply wrap. taking care that your wraps lay perfectly, with no crossed threads, and not too tight, burnish, and coat. Make sure to use equal parts gen 4 resin, and hardener, and mix for 5 to eight minutes. Wit 8 plus hours before

I have no advise, or opinion as I would have to look at it. That being said, if it's a new, unused blank, with any defects, or suspected defects, send d it back for a free replacement part/section. It's up to the manufacturer to insure their product is without blemish, Any crack can cause failure down the road. CTS sent me a blank with a defect. i took pictures, sent the bad section back, an

A magnetic fly fishing net cord has carabiners on a coiled cord, and a powerful maget that esures the carabiners together. It would make a dandy rod protector, if there is an attachment point for one of the caribiners, such as the teel foot, or a ring built into the rod handle. The magets would allow quick release if needed.

Accuracy in fly line casts: Is dependent on the proper casting stroke to project the fly line with the correct power, and direction so as to land a fly in a given target. Many things come into play. First and foremost is becoming familiar with your preferred rod. Is it fast, or slow to load? Does it have sufficient power to effectively pick up the line from the water for a roll, or spay cast?

Got the 2nd coat of Gen 4 on half of the guides after removing thread nubs with a razor blade; Will complete the other half tomorrow. By Wednesday morning, except for setting up the reel, and associated Ines, this rod will be done. I'm excited.

I've used these with great success - Plus, I had customers asking for the, and so made about ten, each selling for $60.00. The only thing is that customers wanted bright orange, or yellow tips, making them easy to see.

I posted something similar to this many moons back. Since solid fiberglass ice rod blanks are so inexpensive, and can be purchased strong enough to land pike, musky, and big lake trout, use AT microwave guides and a solid casting reel on the blank. You'll be amazed at how far it will cast. It is a ton of fun fighting a big smallie, or pike on this rig. And talk about a compact rod for kayak,

Just 2 more guides to go, four feet. Then, the son needs to eyeball them for perfect straightness. Now that the tension is just right, the power wrapper makes thing quick. The hardest part is getting the wrap started. And that's not difficult.

I changed my Alps Power Wrapper thread sled setup, winding the thread around the other spool holders to create a little more tension. It worked perfectly, not so tight that I can't pull the thread trough after 15 turns over the pull loop, but tight enough not to jump backward. oot three, two foot snake guides wrapped perfectly in an hour. Five guides, plus hook keeper are completed. Just 5 m

I believe you are correct. However, the guides should get you into the ballpark A two line static test will then allow you to finalize your guide spacing.

I agree that learning the proper knots is far easier the replacing guides. Slimmest nots - FG, Nail Knot, Blood knot, perfection loop, Albright knot. All of these are easy to tie, after you make a few of them. There are numerous videos that show how to tie them. They glide through glides.
