Its for a 12 yr. Old.. Mainly fishing canals and creeks.. Its ok though customer just got bacl to me, he says to go ahead.. My concern is more with the casting of lighter lures, i recently introduced him,to the KR concept and its incredible casting distances.. With being,so stiff im afraid its going to significantly (with lighter weights) impact distance.. I jumped the gun though, he says to keep

When you go to mount it, why dont you mount a piece or 2 of uni-strut? Puting this vertical would allow you to elevate the one side as far as you would need, you can mount a second piece horizontal so you can slide the end as far left or right as necessary.. I am working on building my own multi dryer as well, and doing 4'-10' rods poses the distance problem for me.. Simple fix.. Although, with t

I wanted to add, that after talking to a staff member one on one for a little, (through email) hitena really is a top notch company, finatually im not able to right now, but i am concidering using thier thread exclusivly.. I have never hd a delamination issue with any of thier metallics (and theres Lot, like... A whole lot) or breakage with any threads.. Including the AAAA silk, they truly due ca

Wow.. That was impessive in my opinion...
I dont have a chuck for my rod dryer anymore, (long story) so now when i have to cure thread epoxy my power wrapper is utalized, i just switch the belts to the dryer motor witch i installed a double pulley, and viola.. Just @#$%& since my work area is basically completly utilized when i need to spin a rod down..
I installed to threaded collars in f

To address your gloss problem... How are you applying it? Spinning? With a fkam brush? How thick? Is your mixing cup compatable? (I had a bunch of cups where the bottom melts after awhile.. Put plastic onto the blank.. What a mess)
For your cork seal, you may be puting to much on with the single coat.. I try and apply cork seal before i epoxy everything up, this way the edges are sealed as we

Ive looked into whats known as a 'pen' rod.. Not those cheap 10$ toys you sse on anazon, but penfishingrods.com has a couple 'real' pen rods.. The goliath, or extreme caught my eye.. They're website is a crapshoot though..,

Another trick for keeping the tip top in place when using tip top adhesive(hot melt glue) is to put a few wraps of thread up onto the tip top tube, if the glue starts to melt a bit in a trunk or back seat, the thread will keep it from twisting, or sagging.. Plus it helps keep it in place in the event of a mishap.. Guides can take a conciderable amount of abuse, why should your tip top be any diff

You should try a 8 axis optical wrap... They are really fun to do, and extremly rewarding.. When i did my first one i it was kinda meh, until i put the final outline wrap on it.. Came out georgeous.. Amazing how 1 thread can make a stunning visual diffrence.. Litterally make or break a wrap...
Those however, are a pain by eye.. Everything has to be kept square and tight.. Mine didnt hold its s

By align, i assume you mean space correctly, and have the orientation not cocked... Best thing i can suggest is to use the light line...
The light line is the reflection of your over head lights, (assuming you have overhead lights) most reel seats have a seam either on the bottom, top, or both.. Center that in your light line, use that as a straight edge to keep your wraps on the correct axis.

This board has removed the learning curve and allowed me to leap forward many times...
Tom, im talking about washing the epoxy after the first coat to get contaminents out of the pits.. Not soap and water directly onto the threads.. Then again, if you get a fish eye, theres no epoxy at the pit.. So water could potentially floodthe wrap under the contaminent.. Hmmm... I dunno.. That idea never

Thank you tom, if i dont use alcohol, and have trouble, do you see anything wrong with giving the entire rod a bath with warm water and dish soap before the second coat? pat dry, then air dry..

I hear ya roger, but back to the original question of the post.. Does alcohol (of any kind) adversely affect epoxys ability to adheare? Or cure properly? Or any other issue that may arise other then the possibility of the addition of contamination due to impurities... If its used to thin out epoxy, one would think it would assist in saturation no?

Say that to the very off color whites that get cleaned before epoxying... Lynn is refring to me.. I use 91% isopropyl alcohol, prior to the current job i was covered in grease and oil.. Hydrolic oil and gear oil dont come off easy.. If you ask many rod builders they will tell you they burnish and pack with thier finger nails.. Thus getting whatevers on your hands on the wraps.. Its probably the n

A little off topic, but relevent i guess..
I just finished my first closed wrap, whats the best approach for finishing? Im assuming CP, then finish, im having a nightmare with the epoxy over the wrap.. Alot of bubbles.. And lack of penetration.. Im going to sand Tommorrow and apply a 3rd coat.. Only reason i bring this up on this thread is doing layers isnt really an option, yet thats kind of

While your at it, might as well install a track system too, that way you can epoxy side to side while your elbows are already roped.. This way, theres zero chance of your elbows hitting.. Gets removes that split second after epoxy, and before you get yourself into the rope.. Alot can happen in that time.. Best to be cautious

They still dont know what they are going to be going for.. One guy wants to go for walleye, another wants to go for bass.. So who knows.. I figure a SJ would be a good all around.. Im trying to get him to get a 2nd rod as well... a little lighter, at a discounted price of coarse lol

Thats correct.. And, if while your appying the epoxy, it starts to get thick, stop.. Scrap the mix.. Mix up a new batch to continue.. Multiple light coats are always better then 1 thick coat..

What brand of epoxy are you going to apply? Just out of curiosity..
All epoxy brands are a little diffrent, some prefer one brand over the other..
If you have never used a self leveling epoxy before, research the heck out of it.. For some reason, epoxy is very difficult to get right.. Atleast for me it was.. Practice makes perfect... I seem to run into issues when the area being epoxied i

If anyone knows that, i do phil.. I was thinking a 7' med. with a 6-12lb rating.. And a quick tip.. I tried explaining to him its better to go application specific.. I have 250$ to play with.. That includes my profits.. So doing 2 rods might be a bit over the limit.. I am getting a pfluger president 35 to match..
