Ive had enough.. First all the shows i like to vend got cancelled... next, suppliers are restricted.. And making it difficult to make the few orders i managed to get this winter... Then social distancing, and threatening to cancel trout season (Pennsylvania for ya) thankfully they opened it on a random day, but stocking was done without care this year... All of this ive managed to k

Hey guys, Havent posted in awhile, hope everyone had a great holiday. I have a couple questions, first off, ive restored a handful of these things and havent ran into these issues before. Im taking the baitcaster reel seat, as well as the rod to a high polish, this particular one has a reel seat lock ive not seen before, if you google "vintage Sears JC Higgins steel fishing rod bl

I have to say norm and lynn are my go to guys, more like family honestly.. And lynns right, the above will not lead you wrong. Period. Another thing about hitena, probably the only thing i dont like to be honest, is you can only get it in 4oz. Kits.. It would be nice to pick up a larger set of bottles since i,go through it fairly quick

Did i hear my name? Oh! Hi guys, didnt see you there.. Lol As stated above, all epoxies are good with thier own traits, i love hitena.. Prokote didnt work out to well for me, granted it was what i used when i first started.. Hitena boasts that thier epoxy and level out a accidental fingerprint or whatever up to 2 hours after application. Ive had thread from one rod (i was doing an inlay) c

Ok, thats a good response.. I always forget about that Google thing.. Although i can spend 24 hrs on the same topic and never get the same answer twice.. My last google headache is trying to find a compression insert for a dip pen, (im a custom pen turner as well) you type in 'dip pen' or 'nib holder' and you get a million pages on fountain pens.. Not dip pens.. Good info though.. The previou

Roger and phil.. Phil i store my epoxy in a location that doesnt go below 65, or over 85 (hopefully) i asked Gabrial about crystalization and i cant remember if Norm or Gabrial said it, but epoxy wants to be hard at room temperature, when you have crystalization its a sign that you have a pure product. What ive gathered is its a good thing, but is lacking the necessary chemicals to keep it

I would call it a high build to be honest.. Its good to go in 8 hrs, i can vouch that it will relevel and accidents that occur within 2 hours off mixing.. I once had a rod drying behind where i was wrapping, a thread tag cought the epoxy and started to bind on the guide at about 1 hour and 45 min. Leveled out perfectly.. I think it was better then before even lol it accepts heat very well too..

Ive become somewhat of a friend of Gabriel over at Hitena USA, its hitena that is crystalizing on me, but its damn good epoxy.. I love the stuff. I still havent gotten any flexcoat to try out, its hard to change what works sometimes.. Back to Gabrial, i would have just asked him, but figured its possible others may have the same question at some point.. So what better place to ask

I figured as much... Just wanted to make sure i didnt do a whopsy lol And i do tom, just dont want to have to keep fussing with it, theres always that portion that doesnt crystalize in there. Tired of heating it up every time.. Figured id just save it for a rainy day. Thanks guys.. And ben, good analogy.. I like it lol

I know i know.. But i just had a thought and want to make sure i didnt just screw myself.. So we established that crystalized thread epoxy is ok to reuse once reheated and de-crystalized.. My question is since only half the epoxy crystalized, if i were to transfer the still liquid epoxy into another bottle of epoxy (better 1 full the 2 half) and leave the crystalized portion in the origina

Roger, i do that for hidden hoods, reel seats, redl seat arbors, etc.. But coating the inside of a grip then sliding it down the blank has to make a mess! Although it does make sense to do that.. Ive never had an issue like this before.. But ive never done hypalon before either. I figured i was good to go, didnt have to do any more research.. Everyone and everything i read says its just like

Lynn, i tried already its on there good.. Phil, i get what they ae doing, and i agree its a good idea, however.. I went to 5 stores, every one had a line.. 7/8 of the people standing there didnt have masks, and not 1 person, mask or not... Was more then 2' apart.. Honestly, you would be better off letting everyone in! Its ridiculous

Well, i just went to lowes.. Thats not going to happen.. Theres a line.. To get in.. They only allow 70 people at a time in the store.. Not sure how 70 is diffrent then say 700.. But theres about 60 people outside and the store closes in 2 hours.. Ridiculous.. Completly Ridiculous..

Ok, just an update.. Looks like my panic is starting to fade away.. I have the hostel off, hypalon is no longer attached at the top, only by the 3" at the reel seat.. Im going to inject an adhesive either by needle, (i expanded a piece double the ID, pierced it with a 18g, and it shows no signs of being poked.. I figure ill use an old top section, go alomg the blank, lift a little to make ai

Alright, so apparently i screwed up.. When i epoxied the 8" hylalon foregrip on, the epoxy, instead of smearing, got squeegee'd off.. So now the reel seat side is attached about 3" up, and the tip side is attached about 1" back leaving roughly 4" unglued. There is a hostel that is attached as well.. My wife grabbed me a 3cc syringe with a couple 22g, 20g, and 18g needle ti

I searched fairly long the other night.. Best i found was a medium, couldnt tell you where it ws either.. Why dont you get a decent telescopic, tear it down and rebuild one? Kmart specials arent the only ones out there.. Diawa amoung others make telescopic rods in the 50-80 price range.. While im on the topic of tearing one down.. You know those pen rods? They fit in your glovebox.. You know

Speaking of rod dryer motors.. I have a crb 18 rpm motor, theres not enough info given to figure out what the wattage draw is.. Litteraly reads 110v 50-60Hz 18 rpm.. Kinda need amperage rating, or resistance... Im looking into getting a APC, ive started to fall behind on my schedule due to fear of power outages.. Stupid weather.. Anybody have a watts meter and feel like testing one?

First off... Holy @#$%&... I have a new respect for you salt guys.. Thats the first time i ever did a gimball, hypalon grips, a 12" and 8" (10" was too long, tapered the end into a hostel.. Looks 10x better) and i size 22 reel seat.. That was like work! Lol The resin, after nuking it for 15 sec. Was like working with butter again.. Good call guys.. Thank you guys.. Seriously

I think my arm is going to fall off.. That took me almost 2.5 hours... Didnt think i would need to reem that much out! My shoulder acually hurts lol.. And it looks like im not going to epoxy that up just yet.. Doesnt look right.. 12" rear with a 10" fore grip all being straight on a 7' rod.. Plus the hostel i had gotten for the build was for a tapered grip.. Sooo... Looks like i have to
