Norm, With the size 8 did you mean a 8Y or a 8L. I can not see a 8YL on the Fuji lists.Maybe you meant Y or L depending on how things look?

Hi Norm,
If NGC often has a four guide reduction train that explains my trouble.I was trying to get it done in 3. A layout of 20,12,8 may work but the 20 was a little short. The 25 is a good height for the stripper so 25,16,10,8 would seem the go.Cheers.

Hi Guy's,
I have a 15 kg standup rod that I am slowly working on. It has the rear grip, seat and foregrip on.Now should I proceed by putting the tip on and then put the gimbal on last after all wrapping and epoxy? Also what epoxy for tip? Is handle paste ok or use a normal 5min epoxy? If putting the gimbal on last does it need a small hole drilled in the bottom to allow air pressure

Line is 5 /10 lb braid.

Just used micros for first time on the weekend and used size 14 rubber bands.Cut in half then wrapped around 3 times and tie a overhand knot.Help to put a bit of spit on the band when timing the knot. Also tie some light mono or string to the guide eye when doing this because if it flicks off before it's tied they are very hard to find. Found out the hard way. I am a newbie but found this worked

Thanks Guy's,
I did try 4,5,&6 and in the end Used 6 runners. It was either have just over 4inch spaceing or just over 5 inch spacing. Now this was my very first rod that I have wrapped guides on. It is my sons rod that the guides started to break for some reason. He has a identical rod that the guides are breaking on as well and I plan to put new guides on it using a

Hi Guy's,
On a ultralight kr build I have 66.5cm between the choke and the tip and I am not sure how many running guides to use.At the moment I have 6 but think that I could get away with 5. Not sure weather I should use the 6 for better loading or just 5 to save a micro bit of weight.Probably just over thinking it all. My numbers of 5 & 6 include the choke but not the tip.Siz

Hi Roger,
Nice work.Any info on the headstock or other components be great.Would like to do similar someday. What to use for headstock and foot pedal has me stumped. When I made my variable speed drier some of your posts helped immensely.

I end up getting a different blank that is 21mm at it's widest where the foregrip will sit.Decided that I probably would not get the grip to stretch that much.So made a reamer out of a old broken rod as per the instructions on the Flex Coat page.Use some 40grit emery tape.Worked a treat.

Hi Guy's ,
Putting a 8"nylon slick butt on a standup rod I am building as my first build. Just wondering with the arbors should I only put 3 on and as much epoxy as possible in between or put arbors the whole length with 1/4 to 5/16 gaps between and as much epoxy as possible? The inside of the slick butt is tapered and matches the tapper of the blank pretty good. There is 1.5m

Thanks guy's for the responses. Just want to clarify what you guy's are calling alcohol? Is it meaning Ispropyl Alcohol or DNA ( Methylated spirits) .What is the difference? Here in oz I can get 99.97 percent Isopropyl alcohol but it is 5 times the price as DNA (methylated spirits).
Thanks again as always.

Hi Guy's , should you clean a blank down with something prior to doing the guide wraps? If so what? Have done some searches but still at a loss as to what to do.Also if the blank has a curve should it be wrapped with curve up or down on a stand up rod? I just have to wait for the reel seat to come and can start my first build.

Ok thanks. The other thing I was wondering was wondering should the centre block be the same size for all of the guides or should it be smaller ( less wraps) as the guides get smaller. Will be on a stand up rod with ring guides as. Was thinking for the centre to use metallic gold of about ten wraps then 3 black then 2 gold then rest in black and finish with a 3 gold trim on the end of the wrap.Hop

Hi Guy's, When doing under wraps with trims and centre block should you start out side and work in or do centre and work out .Or start one end and go through to other end?

I have just got most of the stuff to build my first rod and was planning to use metallic gold and light purple for trims. This morning I stumbled upon a post that was talking about metallics fading in colour.Just wondering what colours fade first and what causes the fading. Also does the use or non use of CP change anything.?

79. Re: Handle epoxy
Thanks Lance. Think I will spend the extra $ and get the Rod Dancer epoxy. Have not heard of this other stuff mentioned on the board at all. It maybe a product only marketed here in Australia.

Cheers Tom. If it will stretch 1.2 to 1.5 times I should not have to ream at all. After I glue up the handle, butt and rear grip I will take some measurements and make sure the o.d of the blank is within range of those numbers. If by chance it won't go all the way what are the chances of sliding it back off and cleaning the glue up and reaming a little? I had sort of forgot about the FAQS page.Lots

Hi guy's, I talked to the rod blank supplier of the 15kg standup rod I am about to build (first build). Where the foregrip will sit is between 19 and 16.5 mm in diameter. Getting a 14inch grip but may cut up to 2 inches off . Should I get a 3/4 I.d grip and put arbors or get 5/8 i.d grip and ream.I will have to make a reamer if that's the case. What grit size should the sand paper tape have? Also

83. Re: Handle epoxy
I DO NOT want the epoxy to release if it gets to hot in the car, boat or under normal use.As I am not sure how hot things can get in a locked car in summer. This epoxy I was looking at is sold as a handle epoxy for rod building here in Australia.I can get Rod Dancer structural epoxy also.Anyone have experience with it?

84. Handle epoxy
Hi guy's, Ordering components for my first build this week and just wondering about epoxys for glueing up a nylon slick butt, graphite seat and Eva foregrip. The stuff I am looking at says that it can be heated to 80degrees Celsius and it will release its hold. For a tip top I would have no problem but for butt ,seat and grip I am not so sure. It is on a 15kg standup rod. Any advice be very welcom

Looking at blanks for standup rod in 15kg class.Rainshadow Fsu56H has butt dia of 0.87 and tip top listed as 11. What does the 11 mean? Think it has something to do with roller guide sizes.I intend to use ring guides so I need a tip diameter in mm.Any help be great.

89. Tip top size
Hi All,
Soon to order components for a 15kg stroker type rod. Having a look at similar type rods I have they seem to use a 12mm ring for the tip top but the last running guide is a 10mm.Is there a benifit to doing this or is having a 10mm for the tip top ok.Also is there a need for a larger tip top on other rods.I think the benifit may be in getting knots through the tip without catchi
