Any tips on shaping Eva foam grips? I’ve done cork grips no problem on my little homemade lathe with a hand drill but I was playing with some Eva before I shape some grips and have trouble not getting striations or tiny cracks horizontally in the foam. I started with 80 grit and then went to 150 and then 400 then 800 grit sandpaper. FYI it’s 3/8 in inner diameter foam that I have on a 1/4 in m

I just got a fiberglass rodgeeks 7ft blank for a casting rod I’m building. I got it in their seafoam green color and it looks great. Has a nice action to it.

I’m building my first casting rods and I was wondering how long to team the Eva for the rear grip when doing a split grip. One reel seat is a Fuji acsm and the other is a Fuji sk2 split reel seat. I saw that old post about spacing the parts for the split reel seat 1 inch apart. Now I’m just wondering how long to make the Eva for the rest grip if I’m doing the split grip where the rear grip is

What’s the best way to ream fighting butts? I’m gluing up cork rings and want to build some handles this weekend. It just always takes forever to read fighting butts by hand. Is there a faster way? I’ve heard of some people starting it off with a drill bit...

Hi all, I searched the forum for info and couldn’t find what I wanted to know. I’m building a 7ft casting rod on an MHx blank and got the microwave casting guides. The packaging has measurements from the tip, but I was wondering if the distance from reel to stripper guide matters like on their spinning microwave set up. I’m going to build out the grip this weekend and I’m not sure if I need t

I’m trying my hand at my first butt wrap and am doing a diamond +1 wrap. I’m not doing the +1 the entire way though and my question is how to finish it once I’ve got my contrast colored half diamonds to my desired size. One I’m done making the half diamonds with the +1, do I continue the +1 but in the main color? Or do I go back to single thread wraps and close it that way? sorry I’d this is

Ross evolutions can be used in the salt. Reddington makes some decent stuff too. I also have an old Orvis I got when they were discontinuing it. Paid about $80 for it. It was an Orvis access IV. Look at some at some of TFOs blanks. They make some decently priced stuff you can use in the salt. Alternatively If you want really cheap occasionally mudhole has some oem generic fly blanks fo

I'll pick some of the glue up then and try it out. I'd just been using the 5 minute rod dancer epoxy for them since that's what came in the rod dancer rod building kits I started out using. Never thought about having to replace tip tops but that makes sense.

I have some threadmaster ultimate 5 minute epoxy I've used for tip tops before but it's a few years old. What's the shelf life on that kind of stuff?

Thanks. Started over last night with 1/4inch spacing and it's looking good so far. It's my first time doing a butt wrap so we'll see how it goesz

Great! Thanks. I'll probably move it up to the ferrule and adjust the running guide spacing. I'm Excited to try these out.

I do the nail knot thing with a piece of coffee stirrer straw. DId some two wrap trim bands on my last fly rod that came out looking great but were a pain in the butt. Just be patient. I ended up leaving the tag a hair longer than normal and then after epoxying, i shaved it off and did another coat (threadmaster lite). if i can figure out how to post pics, I'll do that.

I'm trying my hand st wrapping and want to do a fish scale pattern. How far apart should I make the marks for the layout? I tried 3/4 inch and the scales are coming out huge. So I'm thinking 1/2 inch, but if anybody has experience with what looks nice let me know. It's not a thick blank. It's a Med light spinning rod.

Howdy all, amateur rod builder here. I've mostly done fly rods but am building some spinning rods for friends and got a few microwave nanolite guide sets. The blanks are 7ft and my question is that with the grips I made the first running guide ends up really close to the end of the make part of the first ferrule. I measured from the lip of the spool of the reel. Is it better to maybe that fir
