Tom, maybe it was a bad analogy. The point I was making wasn't about you!!! It was about having guides on the bottom of a bait caster and having it work!!! My phone number is 772-559-1540 if you'd like to have a conversation. Thank you for all you and the bloggers do . No way I could have come this far in rod building with out everyone's help.

I haven't read the article from Rod Maker Mag. yet ( I let my subscription expire, I have renewed), But after seeing the article i decided to share my experience. Kent and I started a friendship @2 months ago. This spawned from our passion to make everything perfect. He came to my house with a rod wrapped to his specs. I showed him my 6-8 versions. I started this acid wrap after reading this

Believing knowledge is the key, I'm hoping some will share their experience on what I saw. Watching a fishing show I couldn't help see this competitive angler's casting rod with a guide about 6-8 inches from reel. I could see the angle the line had, @30-40* from reel to fist guide. What say the pro's. Thanking all in advance.

Have you looked into the American Tackle MicroWave set up? For spinning reels it's the cats meow.

Chad, I felt the same way 2 years ago. Don Morse, from American Tackle, went out of his way to help me get started, so i used some of his rods, great rods. Then I was looking for some thing else that their brands didn't quit fit so I tried some others. And I'm proud to say all of those venders on left of page have quality equipment. The beauty is you get to be very selective to fit your needs

"I've fished my share of tournaments also (Red Man), best finish I had was second at Harris Chain. Used a 6' rod to flip under brush in canals. My point is one size does not fit all. Please consider what type of cover you'll do most of your flipping, open areas or close cover and go with a length that fits. Good luck!!

I've wrapped that olive branch so exact from Doc Ski's video (having the you tube on using the pause button) and never had it look as good as his. Doc admits to using "D" thread due too his eye sight. With that being said, upon closer observant, I think he's threading over a larger diameter base than a bare rod. One or two layers of thread as an under wrap. This is more apparent on

Can any one please share their bait casting reel and rod combos for casting @9 gram cranks,(shad rap). I've tried several combos with poor results. I've been regulated to spinning rigs, which i don't prefer. Thanking all in advance.

Decorate. I love the looks of that. So I'm laying the under wrap, epoxy, then the guide. That's how I get uneven heights.

Anglers resource is a very informational about guides and spacing. My personal preference for spinning rods is Micro Wave, truly the cat's meow!!

I don't purchase blanks as a production shop might. I need the exact blank I order, therefor I stopped purchasing from them. The sale price looses it's luster when extra shipping costs and time are equated. All of the other vendors that I have tried, (believe I've bought from all on left of page) have met or exceeded their specs.

In the golf world every thing was longer and straighter. The slicers still sliced and the hookers, well what ever. I look at all the different ways people cast. You have the over head hope to reach Europe types and the under hand skipping, with just wrist. No way could these types have the same response about the rod. Golf it was frequency, here it's common cents. The best method currently a

So I decide no more fingers on threads and purchase these hidden devices. Put the reel on and locking nut bottoms out before reel is secured. .Any one experience this? Only solution I see is to remove some of the reel seat material. Thanking all in advance.

Mike, I felt the same way. Great You Tube beginner vids. I practiced using a small diameter PVC and yarn. Then I found a used book "Custom Rod Thread Art" by Dale Clemens. Now my only excuse for not being better is my laziness in studying it. haha Good luck. I've found thread work and weaving brings out the excitement of rod building. And everyone I do I improve a little bit.

I wrapper a blue rod with orange and yellow, trying to diminish my surplus supply and I love the look. It is possible what looks good to one might be subjective to another.
