i think I'm misunderstood. After I shortened the rod and determined it to be what I wanted, the tip top has been put back on is on and wrapped, no problems. There is a guide 1.5 inches below the tip top and it just looks funny. I'd like to remove the guide without marring the finish. I could leave it, but like I said, it looks funny because it's too close to the tip top.

I just built a 12 6" surf rod that was a little to whippy for the weight I was throwing. It has a very Moderate, almost parabolic action. I decided to cut 6 inches off the tip but just starting with 3 inches. Small improvement so I cut off the other 3. Perfect. But now, I have a guide I need to remove as it it's really close to the tip top. Whats the best way to go about this? The reason I a

it would make sense if they had some "ready to ship" blanks that were not going to be painted, in stock in the states. I've been wanting to try their blanks and if I don't need them painted, I surely don't need to wait 3.4,5- 8 weeks for some blanks.

I have decided to turn my hobby into a business after building numerous surf rods for others and numerous request for more. I now have my LLC and my EIN. One thing I did not do was check the “Excise tax” box. From what I have read, I can just include IRS form 720 when I file (I am the only owner of the business) my taxes. Did I do this wrong? How do you guys/girls go about filing?

Well, I have a lot to think about! Thanks for all the replies. It does look like it will cost me a bit more with the extension I will need for surf rods.

So, I started building rods a few years ago. Some of my fishing buddies started urging me to build some for them. I look at this site, and I see how technical everyone is, very technical with the guides, how many, where to place and weight. the weight of the guides! Rods and there flexes, composites, graphite, fiberglass, actions and power. So the other day a co-worker wanted a 7ft inshore rod, M

I guess it's time. I've made a few rods for customers now and at first I was impressed at my homemade equipment and how well I was doing. Then I quickly realized that my stuff was really subpar and I had a really hard time making things look "just right". Mainly, I want my rod locked in and a foot pedal, may as well buy one instead of trying to figure how to make one. I've looked at a f

Here are some pics of the finished rod. For a 45 year old Lami, I'm very happy the way it turned out. My skills are improving little by little with every rod. Thanks to all of you, of course.

I made a surf rod three years ago with neon Green Fuji NOCP and it hasn't faded a bit. Passer bys always comment on that rod, and i always have three or four rods out and they zero in on that one. People love bright colors. So do I. I wrapped it over a black rod and it would have even been brighter had I put an under wrap under it, but it still looks good.

I'm almost finished with the rod and I will post pics. Something I have noticed is my untreated teal fish hawk thread has the really bad fuzzies, and everything looked good until I put on the epoxy.. I've used this thread three times and in my rod building adventures, it has fuzzied on me every time I've used it. I have to put down an extra coat of epoxy to cover them up, even though I have tried

I am building a 11.6' Lamiglas Honey surf rod. My under wraps are Metallic Silver, size A. I'm over wrapping them with Fish Hawk untreated Teal, size D. Will the color be more transparent and metallic like if I just epoxy without CP? That is the look I'm after. I want the teal to be transparent and metallic looking.

I ordered my surfrod for a new build on Monday from Anglers Workshop, chose second day air and it came on Wednesday. I chose UPS second day air and paid the extra because lately, USPS is blowing it pretty bad. I have had countless orders delayed damaged and one lost order. Didn't want to chance this one. I paid with paypal and although I made an account and was signed in when I made the order, it

Thank you for all the suggestions, I ordered most everything from Angler Workshop and it came today. My fourth rod will be underway soon. Went with a 20mm reel seat, should be fine.

The biggest part of this problem is just about everything we buy is imported. Small suppliers of the Blank industry do not have the means to keep supplies overstocked so they don't run out. When they do run out, its them (and us) waiting on a slow boat from China (mostly). These big overseas manufactures do not care about you. They only care about selling the biggest order they can, and if you ru

I use Winn grips on my clubs, they are very soft. They are by far my favorite grip. I do club repair and I almost exclusively install these things, we all love them. The only downfall is we will wear them out in one season, 2 if we don't play as much, and that is 13 grips that need replacing. Has anyone used the fishing grips on a consistent basis? Now that they have been around for a couple of y

I'm building a surf rod for my daughter for her graduation present and I need to get this right the first time, not much time to send things back if they don't fit. The rod I'm getting for her the this the 11ft medium 2-4oz, with a .63 butt. What is the method to determine the reel seat size and grip size? Also, a .63 butt size for a 11 Blank seems very narrow for an eglass Rod. My surf rods are

So, I went with the Shakespeare Tidewater spinning rod, stripped the guides off, left the reel seat, sanded it down, painted flat black with a matte clear, spined, added casting guides on, spaced correctly, wrapped them and flex coated them. Took it to Ft.Peirce Florida, fished for three days with three rods, caught my limit of pompano every day. I was casting the rod 100+ yards and accuracy was

I was wondering the same thing. I repair clubs and play a lot. I play Winn grips and replace them every year, and replace all of my friends and customers every year too. It's a Winn-Win situation for me. But it wouldn't be if they wore out on rods. If they are the same material, I'd have second thoughts. The club grips are soft and we expect them to wear out, but they are the best grip for many b
