Are some guides less likely to need prep (grinding)? Or do y'all recommend grinding all guides feet no matter what? Do I need to worry about grinding the black finish off of black stainless steel guides? Was going to post a new thread about guide prep, but searched and found this recent thread. TIA!

Called Mudhole yesterday, and was told the HM Gen 2 blanks are still in stock. Depending on which model blank. But they are being fazed out and the new Elite blanks are taking the place of the HM Gen 2 blanks. Was told that if I were to have a problem with one of the HM Gen 2 blanks I've built, and they no longer have the HM Gen 2 clanks in stock, they would replace with a comparable Elite blank.

Do these new blanks take the place of the MHX HM Gen 2 blanks? Didn't see the HM Gen 2 blanks listed in the new catalog. What happens if I have an issue with one of my MHX HM Gen 2 blanks now, as it seems they are no longer available? Thanks.

Got a Fuji Speed Threader from Jim at AR a few months ago (thanks Jim). Hadn't used it yet until today. Getting ready for a trip this weekend and had some reels spooled up that were off rods. Speed Threader made fast work of running line from reel through the line guide of the reel, down the rod guides to the tip. Guides down to size 4.5. Was fast and efficient and no issues with mono that has so

Thanks for the replies guys. Don't know if I got the "Water-break-free" on my previous builds using fine grit sand paper or not, as I had never heard of it until I found this site. Was wondering if you didn't need to prep a mat finished blank like you would need to with a glossy finished blank? As the mat finished isn't as slick as the glossy. Looks like it will still need to be pre

Was looking for advice in regards to prepping a rod blank. Took a beginners rod building class last year at a local tackle store and have built a few rods since and really enjoy building. In that class, we were told to use fine grit sandpaper to lightly rough up the blank where the grip, reel seat and fore grip will be located to allow better adhesion between the blank, epoxy and grip/reel seat.

With lots of rod companies that have limited lifetime warranties, which is a good thing for builders and customers alike. But as Tom stated, if it was a defect with the rod, it would show up early in the rods fishing life. With the rod being a few years old, the rod company has no way of telling how much a rod has been used or not during it's life before a break. If the break occurred in the f

I'm not sure what is customary for a discontinued blank, to be honest with you. I would be a little disappointed if the blank I had a brake with was an RX7 and they wanted to replace it with an RX6 blank. As this is a step down from the RX7 blanks in cost and development in their blank line up (RX6, RX7, RX8, ...). I've built a couple of rods with the RX6 and RX7 blanks. Both are good blanks,

Doesn't work for me. Takes you to a page that looks like it will go somewhere, but when you click on one of the options on the left, you get a grey screen and looks like that web site is no more. I need all the help I can find :-(

So putting the bottles of finish in warm or hot water before mixing will cause the finish to start setting up faster and shorten the pot life? I've always followed the video's on Flex Coat's site about warming the bottles of finish before mixing. I'm in Texas, so not many months out of the year that room temperature isn't in the 70's. Going to try not warming finish next go around and see what

What makes Threadmaster finish better than Flex Coat, ProKote and other options? I've used Flex Coat high build and FC Lite and had good results, but it is the only finish I've used. Needless to say, I'm green behind the gills with rod building. Planned to try other finish when I start getting low with the Flex Coat I have on hand.

I've only looked at those rods at a couple of tackle stores. Never owned one. I'm pretty sure the first couple of guides from the reel are regular Fuji sic guides and the rest are REC Recoils up to the tip. I'm pretty sure the tip guide is also SIC guide from Fuji. Other option would be to check out TackleTour.com. I'm pretty sure they have done a review on a few of the NRX blanks. Should give

Long time lurker and just joined (registered) today. Don't know why it took me so long. Looking forward to learning lots more from you guys. I bought your book last year when I started building, Mr. Kirkman. Awesome video and it is always nice to see it done versus pictures in a book or magazine. Thanks.
