If there is an actual weight savings, for sure, put em out there. There are many people that would use them for the aesthetics, I would use them if there was a performance enhancement. You won't know until you go, paddle out and guinea pig it for us.

To me it really depends on the guides and placement. I have the same 8wt blank with two different guide configurations. The more conventional set up with doublefoot snake guides cast better with the Cortland Liquid Crystal F WF Flats Taper and the unconventional single foot guided one works better with the SA Amplitude Smooth Grand Slam F WF, I have found that the Cortland line will work on a wi

Start with a Fly Rod. Buy a CTS blank from Herb and get the guides, grips, thread and reel seat from one of the vendors on the left. Make a hand wrapping rack, plenty of you tube videos to show you how. Just start doing it, you sound like you are a perfectionist and will get it pretty fast. When you come to a road block, ask the forum. Good luck, it is really not that expensive compared to what y

I will do 3 small drywall mesh arbors so I can get epoxy between them on each side of the arbor. Masking tape will also work but I do not use it. Weight in that section of the rod is usually not a factor and may actually balance the rod to give a better light feel to the tip, it will however, add to the total weight of the rod.

It may be too late, but I always mount the real seat and grips before I even mark where the guides are going. I will usually do the butt piece last after everything else including the guides. Dry fit grips and seat before epoxy, but I guess that doesn't need to be said. I would like to see pics also. With the app it may be easier to post.

The main thing I have come to do about handle length, is to have a precise measuring point from the finished butt of the rod to a point on the reel seat that I will always use to measure this distance. In my case it is the rear foot anchor point of the reel seat. You can make it anything you want, but be consistent and always use that point. That will give you a better understanding of the length

45. Re: NFC vs MHX
I usually will build fly rods on NFC blanks but I have built a few on MHX and a few more on Sage and TFO. It seems I only buy the MHX blanks when they are on sale. If I were to compare them to another blank I would say they are a lot like Rainshadow blanks to point that they appear to come from the same factory. Maybe I'm wrong. The MHX blanks I have bought for "dirt cheap" on sale have

Yes I am according to the site. I never get a conformation at my email and it is not in the spam.

@#$%& if I know. I have been on this site for at least 5 years and have done everything that they tell you to do to post pics but none of it has worked. Now that NFC has something to do with ownership of the site I am hoping they can find a programer that can bring it into this century. I highly doubt that you will ever be able to post pics from right here like every other website on the internet

I have actually done both. The HM seems a little crisper and that is what build on the most. I don't really use these in a strong current as i

I like Fuji SIC KW 16 & 8 with REC double foot 4s then 3s on the tip section (just a little less weight if it really matters) and a large tip top. There is hardly a difference in weight on the SIC or Torsite, its up to you what you want to spend. You could also do REC Cerecoil double foot guides for strippers a 20 and a 10, they have a thicker ring so the ID is more restricted than like a F

REC Guides are flexible. A large high frame single foot guide is somewhat flexible and the base will crack. I put a couple wraps in front of the foot to help with the cracking on high frame single foot guides

Just go from both ends with the large diameter reamer. A little at a time and test to fit. As Lynn says, a winding check will cover any gaps. I build on Point Blanks all the time and it will seem you are taking a lot of material off the grip just to make it fit. With short grips it will not be that complicated. The butt piece is pretty straight forward, just use a flat bottom bit to get the right

Get rid of the 7 and use the KW 10 followed by the 5.5 (kw or kb) then the rest 5s or 4s. You can replace the KW 10 with the RV 6 if you have the inclination to. You just want the height so you can keep the line as straight a path as possible from the reel. It doesn't have to be difficult.

Make it easy for you. A direct path to the choke point on the rod guided by the angle of the reel shaft. Use high framed guides in this path, with the butt guide being large enough to capture the line just to the point where it is almost slapping the sides of the ring but not actually doing it. The following guide from the butt guide should be reduced by at least half the diameter with the next g

57. Re: Round files
I have done exactly what Norman has done and hardly ever (like never) use files to ream. You can buy the tape and make your own from old or broken rods. A steel shank can be glued into the end to attach to a drill. I have a one that is 5' and starts at 3/8" and ends at 3/4".

Reverse bits from Flex Coat or the Forecast / Batson dream reamer set. Mudhole has a file set also.

Its weird to hear from Jim. Just use different guides, the Torzites are better on micro builds. If they would just do Alconite with titanium frames, it would be cool.

Put another coat on a little thicker but not too much, see if it "looks like crap" after that.
