Alex’s, I saw some carbon fiber grips made by NFC designed to fit the Fuji IPS reel seat. Will these grips be offered to the US market, if so when? I do like the IPS seat and would love to have CF grips for then Norm

Use Devcon 2 ton epoxy. Thin enough to inject and is very strong. Most hardware stores sell it, at least my ACE hardware has it. Hope you can get out to buy some. It’s a very good epoxy for rod building. Norm

How about KW30, KW25, KW20, KW12, KW 10 or 8 runners. Another option is KW30, KL20, KL12, KT10 or KT8 or KT6 runners. Norm

The plastic on top of the decal is there so you can burnish and smooth the label onto the blank without damaging it. Once the decal is smoothed down, just peel that protective plastic piece off, and you are ready to apply finish. Norm

I have not had that problem. What size TVS seat are you using? I use a size 17 and have had no problems with them, even with a 4000 reel. They are very long seats and when I use a hidden thread hood, I have to trim the threads back. Norm

If you are going to use a hidden thread hood you have to screw the hood, without the hood sleeve glued on, all the way down and if any threads extend beyond the hood tube, then trim the threads back so they are even with the hood tube. If you don’t do this then once the hood sleeve is glued in place the hood will not tighten all the way down to hold your reel foot securely in place. Norm

I have the same blank set up as a casting rod and I have 10 guides total and it works great. My guide layout consist of KW10, KW5.5, four KB4.5 and four KT4.5. My stripper is about 20” in front of the reel and my first runner is about 9 cm from the tip top with the remaining guides spaced progressively between them. If you are overly concerned about the line touching the blank then do a spiral w

It may recystallize. Crystallization is dependent on the purity of the resin (the purer the greater the chance of crystallization), seed crystal formation, and temperature. Many types of compounds can change from liquid to solid and back again without harm. Just the nature of the beast. Norm

Warm it up. Epoxy resins can undergo a cystalluzation process. I have had U40 rod bond resin cystallize before and heating it restored it to normal

Both the PB701LXF and PB701MLF will do what you want. As Don suggests they are great blanks. They load very well with a broad range of lure weights. Norm

I’m assuming you are talking about the gap between the threaded barrel of the reel seat and the blank. If this is the case then either the Fuji WCS (as Eric suggests) or the Batson FBWC wind checks will work since both they are designed to match the OD of the threaded barrel of the reel seat. Marks suggestion of using pigmented epoxy to build a ramp will also work. However, with the hidden thread

Then it must be something on that particular blank that caused the problem. Since the other 2 rods, done at the same time, came out perfect, it is the only possible variable left. For your information, there was a previous post here by Mark Talmo concerning the use of some brands of blue painters tapes causing contamination problems with Crystal coat and other finishes. It is also possible that t

I have never had the problems you are describing. Other than the slow cure rate, I have been quite happy with Crystal Coat. I measure by volume, and never tack, sand or use alcohol before a second coat. If previous use gave perfect results, you obviously did something different this time. Just keep it simple. Norm

Phil is correct. Hot shot blanks also have a very fast action with a flexible tip that quickly transition into a powerful butt section. They are also very similar to spin jig blanks, which do the same thing. I do like these types of rods. Another relatively inexpensive option for an all around bass rod is the MHX SJ843. It has a more flexible (softer) tip than the MB series but with a lot of pow

My favorite all around casting rods are the PB701MF and the PB731MXF. They are extremely nice nice rods which will easily cast 1/4 to 3/4 oz. They are unique rods that are very fast, but with a more flexible tip then most other rods I have use. The flexible tip loads very nicely no matter what weight you are casting; the heavier the weight the further back the rod loads into the powerful midsecti

If you are using certain hidden thread hoods it may be necessary to trim the threaded barrel of the seat so the hood with sleeve fit properly. Also if you are using no fore grips you can certainly trim the reel seat threads back, because there is fore grip in the way to prevent using a reel with a longer foot. I just do what’s necessary. The MHX DR845 has an OD of 16.55 mm 12””up from the butt, so an 18, 20 or 22 reel seat will work. I would go for the smallest that fits the reel foot. Does he want a tigger reel seat or not? Norm

I know nothing about down rigger rods, but I think it might be of benefit to build it spiral wrapped. If I remember correctly the rod you sent me to repair used a Batson RDR blank and it certainly did not appear to be a heavy duty trolling rod but rather a fairly light powered rod that did not seem appropriate for the type of fishing you described. I don’t think at the time either of us underst

I just posted in another thread above concerning two different NFC blanks designated Mag Light as a possible replacement for a G. Loomis rod designed as a Mag Light. One NFC Blank was a 6’ SJ blank that has a publish IP of over 800 gm, the other was a SB blank that had a published IP of less than 250 gm. Go figure! Norm

NFC has a couple of 6’ SJ rod labeled as Mag Light and extra fast, the SJ 607-1 IM and Sj607-1 SM. However, these blanks are quite heavy duty with intrinsic powers of over 800 gm. They also have a 5’10” XF blank SB51001 SM that is term a mag light but has much less power with an IP of about 250 gm. I have no idea concerning the power of your friends 5’10” G. Loomis SJ rod. G. Loomis still sells
