Ok,
I am finally home. I can move the motor bracket to the front of the head stock and the motor bracket will be directly under the chuck- this position will not interfere with anything. However, if I go this route - I will have to use something like 5/16" aluminum flat bar, drill and tap the new holes for the motor, and do the same to attach it to the supplied motor bracket as the pulley

Tom,
I will definitely try it that way - that would put the motor bracket directly under the chuck correct?

Tom,
Are you talking about putting the head stock all the way to the end of the track, then put the motor mount actually in front of the head stock with the motor and shaft running along the side of the head stock facing the opposite direct as it was originally?
Thanks,

Tom,
I like the sound of that but would the motor still need to face the opposite direction? And that would mean the motor wood need to be mounted right along side the head stock tower and I’m not sure ho I would do that.
Thanks,

You nailed Nicholas!
Surely one one else has accomplished this. Enlighten me please!
Thank you,

Hello all,
Just received my Renzetti rod lathe and let me begin by saying - WOW! Wish I had ordered it 2 years ago when I first asked you all - your recommendations about upgrading the equipment I had. Beautifully machined and fits together almost seamlessly. Just plain awesome craftsmanship!
Anyway,
I want to set the lathe up on the opposite side of the table I had originally planned (wife th

I use an air brush - it works great! I use only the paint I need.
As for the paint - I have great success with Createx wicked air brush paint used for automotive graphics as well as plastic RC car bodies which can flex but the paint won't crack.

I have spare dryers and the ATC wrapper that I use for drying when I build multiple rods simultaneously. I just want the option to go from applying finish to drying mode by moving the belt - a similar setup as the ATC.
I am thinking about using the drying motor setup from the ATC and mount it to the Renzetti (if the belt will work on that pulley).
Tom, do you recall what issues of the magazine

Hello all,
I am thinking about upgrading to a Renzetti. The Pacbay I have now has the variable speed foot control as well as an attached 9 rpm drying motor that takes over when the belt is moved to its pulley. I really like having this combination on 1 setup.
My question - Have any of you modified a Renzetti to be a combination wrapper/dryer?

#1 above is the technique I use and it works great. You can make it as perfectly cylindrical as a shot gun barrel !

I just wrapped some micro guides on a spinning rod build(first time). I thought about using the Forhan locking technique but was concerned about being able to adjust the guides after wrapping was complete. Are the guides adjustable after using this technique? It doesn't seem like there would be much play. I ended up just wrapping past the single foot guides, then added trim band.

Does anyone know if Raymond Adams plans on getting his rod building library website back up and running. I found it had some pretty good information on it and hate to see it go.

138. Re: AIR BUBBLES
Thanks everyone for your responses. I actually had gotten home in time to flash the air bubbles out but the crater stayed there. I cut it them all out after the epoxy hardened, and applied another thin coat of epoxy - looks great- like there was never an issue(even with a magnifying glass). Lucky me - THIS TIME!
After, thinking back at my process - I believe :
1. I left the rod too early - if

Wow! Never had this happen and would like some input from everyone.
I have done in the neighborhood on 15 tiger wraps and never had this problem - but really it doesn't have anything to do with a tiger wrap - just thread!
I wrapped the bottom layer ( 3 different colors ) of NCP for a butt wrap tiger, then I burnished the threads as usual to achieve the "wavyness" , applied a ligh

Michael,
I would try and sand the old epoxy as much as possible to blend in the rough edges, then clean well with ISO alcohol and apply new finish.

I have had success by cleaning the old finish well with ISO alcohol, lightly sand the old finish - then apply new finish.

sounds like a plan I will try ! I drive my wife crazy with the same thing!
Did you see the above post about the layout? Just curious about your experience with their layout measurements?
Have you built using the Microwave 30 system?

Norman,
do you use the layout for the reduction train and running guides and then adjust as needed (deflection test) or pretty stay with their layout recommendations?

I am building the rod to match a 3000 series Penn - I was wanting to try the microwave system simply because I haven't used it yet.
I was thinking about using the microwave as reduction and switch over to Fuji #5 's for the running, but what would be the point of switching over.

what are your thought on using the microwave guides for reduction train and then micro guides in the running train? And would there be any different procedures for layout or testing?

Hello All,
Question - when is a guide (what size?) considered a "Micro" guide?
Also, do any of you use them on Redfish/Snook spinning rods/blanks ?
Forum: rodboard 7 years ago

yes,
from what I see - I can order the lathe - then additionally order a motor, motor bracket, and foot operated control.

Roger,
I assume that's why the renzetti lathe doesn't come with a motor.
do you have and photos of your lathe setup?
Thanks,
