Does anyone have any info about the silicone portion of the mold he used? The pvc seems pretty straight forward to make but the silicone piece looked like it had ends on it to keep the the mandrel centered. I’m thinking he made those himself. Anyone have any info on these silicone molds?

Thanks Bob,
Just ordered it!! I’m sure the pan with the mandrel through it will probably be the best bet as it has been proven. However, the idea of using the the silicone inside a pvc pipe seems like there would be less waste and less turning. Anyone use this method?(Mike Riley’s video) If so, I would like to hear about it! Thanks Norman,
That takes care of the carbon fiber sleeves - now that I’ve seen Mike Riley make the foam cores - I want to try that! So, any information on what to use and where to get please!

I bought a couple of kits from Mudhole but I was wondering if any of you guys or girls by the supplies and parts that are not in a kit. If so- where? Looking for different sizes or options.

Ok, I didn’t get a lot of responses to my issue so I experimented- I took a razor blade and lightly scraped the the feather. Then I used the point of the razor and lightly cut through the feather - reapplied the color preserver and it seemed to saturate as it should. I will reapply later, then apply the epoxy. I will repost at that time to let everyone know if this worked.

I think I will try to clean it first as it was soaked in preserver and glue down very good! I would probably make a big mess trying to remove it! Anyone else have any ideas?

I have put feathers (over thread) on a blank with color preserver (flex coat). All seems good at this point except for 1 small area of a jungle cock feather - the eye at the end of the feather. It seems to be rejecting the color preserver. there are 3 other jungle cock feathers on my build that accepted it fine. The color preserver just glides off of this area even when i place a drop on it. I am

Herb,
No I was wanting to confirm the primary was the 1st ring for measurement pupose - I realize there is only about 1/2” difference in the 2 rings but I was curious which one was the ring to measure to from the spool lip for initial setup. No way would I consider turning the guide around - it would be facing downward!

I realize that - but there are 2 rings on the the stripper - is the largest one considered the primary or the second smaller one?

Is the primary ring the largest ( and closest to the reel) or the smallest ring on the stripper guide of the Microwave 30 system?

I have the lathe from Harbor Freight with a few additional chucks. It is the one Roger mentions above - General Machinery. It works very well - I use it for mainly rod building - grip shaping, sanding, cork blemish filling, etc. I have done a few other projects though and again - good solid lathe- good price!

Mark,
Send me an email and I will give you the info about the control center. Try searching DC 24V 150RPM high torque electric speed reducing gear box motor - it is sold on Amazon by Uxcell. I just looked at it again.

Hello all,
I have recently gone through the process of changing the power setup on my Renzetti Craftsman with a DC mini gearbox motor. I wanted to post the data of this conversion if anyone is considering the change over.
What made me want to look for other options than the 1/10 hp motor that I bought with the wrapper was to gain more control(on the lower RPM side), use the wrapper as a dryer

Eric,
I have mine mounted 2” from the edge of the table (bench). If I need to steady my hand for applying the edge finish, I just place one hand (fist) on the aluminum base rail and lay my other hand on top of it. Works fine. I mounted it this way because I didn’t want to have to lean forward at all. As well as - the further from the edge of the table you are - the further you will have to reach

It is 13” from the front of the bed to the rear of the carriage with spools of thread on the carriage! As stated above give yourself some room or the carriage will act like that arm at the bowling alley when it clears all the pins off of the lane!
Since you are building against a wall - you might want to put a wide shelf above the thread carriage and jus not place ANYTHING in the thread carriage

Jay,
Another option is to salvage some of the cork dust you create when sanding the grip and make a paste with Titebond lll. I turn the cork handle on a lathe and apply a thin coat of the Titebond lll to the pits (kind of a primer coat). Remove any excess with a damp cloth and apply the paste in all the pits by pressing it in firmly with a spatula or similar tool. Leave it high, let it dry, then

I use Createx Wicked Colors - it’s air brush paint that is used RC cars, motorcycle graphics, etc. So you could definitely fade them.

I use an air brush to paint the entire blank then coat it with spray max K2 (2 part urethane in a can). It works great ! I have never had an issue with any cracking. The body of work is is all in the prep!

Roger,
I don't see a #51 nib on the Dickblick website you attached - only the 512 and 513. Are these the ones you use?
512 being a standard dip pen and the 513 the extra fine.

Roger,
I elected to go with the 2m034 instead of modifying the motor bracket. All I have to do is place the motor bracket on the opposite side, mount the motor, and I’m done. Thanks to everyone who replied to this post -. I’m really surprised it hasn’t come up in the past a number of times!
Thanks,
