Upon further inspection I may choose to build an air blank and a jetstream. I think I kinda answered my own question here. I'm excited. I have a feeling these blanks will exceed all expectations.

Ok so I have a rod in the works I wanna build ,and I have been wanting to give a CTS blank a shot. I plan on building an 8 foot 2 piece rod ,in one of the blue colors. The fishery will be for schoolie stripers and halibut from the beach in California, average size fish between 6-10 pounds, and I want to have it be crisp, and have some butt to it. My question is what would be better for fishing small

123. Re: Mixing cups
I like those aluminum dishes mudhole sells. I mix in the regular plastic cups and pour it out onto the aluminum. It's really simple and has given me no issues.

125. Re: 2 piece Rods
I have been using 2 piece rods for years and years with no issues. I have a 11 and a half foot float rod,1 piece and I'd never be able to take it anywhere! My longer steelhead and surf rods are 2 piece,as are some trout rods. No issues.

127. Re: Rod blanks
I built on a Bushido blank and I love it,plan on building more in the future. I also really like the NFC blanks. Rodgeeks seems good as well but I have yet to build on one. The other blanks I have built are rainshadow and MHX. All are good and have their place!!

I have that very model Saltist and can tell you it's a fine reel,as are most Daiwa products. Smooth, reliable, and it looks cool! I've put it to the test and it's nothing short of flawless.

No one rod can do it all but a 9'6" rod rated 6-12 would be well served with floats and hardware. The NFC 964-2 is a great stick.

Hi all. My friend wants me to build a Forecast F1338-4. Anyone have experience with this blank? He will be fishing steelhead with it on the trinity/klamath rivers. I have little experience fly fishing and have never built a spey rod. We have the handle set I just don't know if the stri[[er guide should be a snake or how many guides a rod like this needs. I want to make it a fishy reliable rod for

I built a 7 foot UL MHX blank and did the concept guides and love it! Caught a lot of fish on it,and everyone I have let use it tells me they love that rod.

Ok so I re-prepped the blank where I could,to where it was water break free. I commandeered a spoon from the kitchen drawer(I'm not married so I can do this) and measured precisely the same amount of rod bond, mixed thoroughly for 3 minutes, scraping the sides of the mixing cup,and made sure I put enough epoxy on there before I slid the handle back up to the reel seat and trim ring. I should be goo

I was only able to slide the handle tube down about 8". I am going to scuff the blank and re-epoxy . The foam arbors seem to be adhering to the tube, and I remember scuffing the blank well,so I think I messed up on the epoxy ratio. I will update my results .Thank you all, this board is the best!

Lol thanks Drew. Yeah I can fix it. I will re-do the epoxy . I prepped the blank well enough and I believe I made the epoxy parts equal so I will be sure to mix mix mix! Also I am going with the foam arbors.

139. Handle epoxy fail
Well. I built my dream steelhead rod,it fished phenominal on a recent trip, caught a bunch of fish and I was super stoked until I was casting and felt the butt cap come loose. I looked and the epoxy was in there but it appears the arbor failed(white masking tape). The I noticed the handle was loose. The foam arbor to the reel seat closest seemed to be well glued to the handle tube, but it slipped o

My passion for steehead drift fishing has driven me to the point of obsession since I was 12. I like a casting reel for several reasons. First is line control, with a casting reel I can engage immediately, and mend if I have to ,reducing slack and thus being in contact with the terminal gear more quickly, hence the detection of bites where I might miss. Second is the ability to extend my drift. I ca

I like a having a full handle on my steelhead rods so the tip feels lighter but it's all personal preference. Mock it up and test cast it. I build a NFC 6-12 casting spiral wrapped drift rod and it's the nicest I have ever fished.

145. Re: Wrapping thread
2nd the head magnifier. My girlfriend bought me a jewelers magnifier with different lenses that lights up and it saves me,plus if you get it all looking good under magnification,to the naked eye it looks amazing! Size A thread will be just fine for you,and by practicing on a used blank you will be able to try trim bands, getting used to epoxy finishes, and making your thread wraps look like a milli
