Herb, it is kept in my rod building room. It has AC in summer and heat in the winter. It never gets below 70 in the room.

I have a large bottle of Pro Kote high build resin that has never been opened but is as hard as candle wax. It's been kept in a climate-controled environment. Can anyone tell me what happened to it and can it be returned to a liquid form that is still useable?

Trying to build a ice rod for a friend in ND. Planning on using the V-line 36" Walleye wrecker. I need all information for the build; handle size, handle length, guide size and location....etc. Being from Florida, I have not made an ice rod before. I appreciate any input. Thanks.

I use CP on wraps with nylon thread. I used it on my first rod I made 40 years ago and I still have it.

It appears to start with red. Follow the existing pattern or change it up to your liking. There are several methods for making a new wrap match the existing one. Start each color and tie it off when the desired width is achieved, Repeat until done.

Practice, practice, and practice. Identify your specific goals; distance, accuracy, presentation in measurable terms and then set a plan to meet them. Casting better is to obscure, instead go for a set distance. Accuracy, set parameters in terms of measurement from a specific target. Presentation is yet another if not more subjective goal. Also consider the type of fishing you are going to b

Dave, I too have had your problem and tried sanding them down at first. As expected, most of my first attempts resulted in me having to completely remove the guide and start over. I have, through experience, have been able to get the desired result through sanding, followed by a top coat of new epoxy. Give it a try with the hopes that you will get the results you want but be willing to accept

David, I've shipped in stout cardboard and found it to be a 50/50. Too much hard work goes into a rod and then have a low percentage of them arrive without significant damage. I have since gone to PVC. It is more costly but I have only had one incident where the rod was damaged. USPS has been my most frequent shipping partner, only because I am pretty rural and it is a long trip into town

I recently built a 14wt for a customer. Herb was spot on with all his advice and guideance. My customer loved it; caught sailfish, tuna, and Mahi on the rod. Follow Herb's advice and you'll do great.

Welcome Brian, You will find no advice shortage here. The caveat is that to every question there will be several different solutions from the various contributors. They all work for them, the trick is finding which one works best for you. Good luck and welcome again.

I've used both products but prefer the Alps because it feels better for me. So this is a matter of personal taste. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I've attended the expo for many years and listened to all the big names in the game. All offer several approaches to decorative wraps in line with their own style. But all have a few common themes. 1. Measurement and alignment. 2. Good results are like anything else, the more you do the more you learn. 3. Mistakes are going to happen. 4. Be prepared to cut it off when it goes bad no matter

David, Like many things in rod building; less is often best. Any dressing needed should be only what is needed and no more. You'll find as many reasons for this as there are people offering comment. However, it is far too easy to overdo the grinding.

Jim, it is always hard to lose a loved one, especially a man you truly cared for. There is a for sale page on this site and you can list the items there. Know that the items will go to a home where they will be used with an equal level of care and love of the craft.
