Just received a NFC X Ray SJ703 Wednesday 4-22 which I ordered on 4-5. Very impressed with the product and quick delivery from WA to NC with everything going on. I was very glad to give NFC another chance after a not so great experience about 2 years ago. Whatever Aleks and his team is doing I say keep up the good work. Glad to buy quality products made in the USA which is getting more difficult

Pretty sure the St Croix Mojo Bass is using made in Mexico SCII blanks and wrapped there as well. These blanks can be bought from Rod Geeks Bass 2 line for about 60 to $70 not including shipping but you can build it the way you like it.

I didn’t know that you guys make 1 piece fly rods Aleks. Transport and storage issues aside which rod performs/feels better on the water the 1 piece or the 4 piece? If North Fork Composites made a 7’ to 7’9” max 6 to 7 wt fiberglass one piece I would be all over it. It would be perfect to use from a kayak. I noticed Fed EX Ground and Home Delivery takes tubes up to 9’ that would be much

With all due respect Phil Ewanicki St Croix and Rod Geeks still makes 70:30 split surf rods and they are very popular and accepted by anglers. I do agree with you they are very fine rods. Many folks were used to 1 piece surf rods from Lamiglas and others so a 8 ft tip section on a 11’ is certainly easier to transport but still have a 1 piece feel. Do agree with you that fly fishers are set in the

The multi piece rods didn’t replace one piece rods because of performance it is because of shipping cost and fly fishers requesting easier to transport rods. With the max 108” max length + girth that would be about a 8’4” rod blank max shipped in a 2” diameter pvc pipe before the shipping gets crazy high. I just recently ship a surf rod with a 8’ tip section in a 3” pvc pipe that was 97” long , w

There are actually quite many that will say a 1 piece is better performing especially to ones cut and ferruled but many fly fisherman want portability for air travel and on their pack. Like everything it’s always a compromise but certainly the multi piece rods have came a long way. I think is due to the blank makers taking the stiffening of the ferrules into account when they design the blank. B

I almost forgot Steffen Bros fly rods makes a 8’6” 6/7 that they could probably sell as a one piece. Less time fitting a spigot ferrule in their end.

I was looking for a one piece 8’ fly rod blank last year. I will tell you that there is very little options since most have gone to multi piece tip over butt blanks vs making a longer master blank then cutting and ferruling afterwards. Most spin blanks like you said are too heavy or too fast of an action to make a great fly rod, I personally do not cast a fast floppy tip fly rod as well as one th

Lemke LC1 is in bronze, reasonably priced for being made in the USA with very high quality. I don’t think any of our site sponsors sell them, check out Ron at Southwest Custom Rods he is a rod builder that has helped me out a couple times.

I think the little extra weight of the material helps load it with very little fly line out with fiberglass fly rods or with a casting very light weight lure on a spin rod. Then you have the durability aspect too if you are climbing or wading on rocks and bushwhacking which is a big plus to fiberglass.

Your Neo blank sounds awesome any chance you have a lighter power Neo in the works like a MH crankbait. Also your new Xray SJ733 sounds awesome, large lure range and light. Is the 1.3oz weight correct? Should be perfect for fishing speckled trout and redfish I do in the NC sounds.

Everything comes with a compromise or advantages and disadvantages. I prefer the peace of mind using a more durable fiberglass fly rod especially from a kayak where high sticking while fighting a fish is sometimes unavoidable. So if a company wants to use a fiberglass material that “ bridges the gap” with carbon fiber by having a similar recovery speed I think that is great. I also think it is gr

Why is there so many worrying about building rods when everybody is going to live in a bubble and not go outside to go fishing anymore. The common flu has been killing people with weakened immune systems everyday and people aren’t going nuts about it.

The Hitena is the best rod building thread that I have used and that is Pac Bay, Gudebrod, and Fuji. The Metallic Aurora black that I picked up at the ICRBE looks amazing can’t wait to try it on a future build. The fly tippet is awesome, strong for their diameter. Also very low memory which I think allows for much smaller diameter spools than other brands so takes up less space in your pack a

With some line manufacturers having line 1 to 2 line weights over AFTMA standard and rod blanks underrated to make them feel faster action it makes it quite complicated now.

You can use cork, rubber or eva foam as a small fighting butt. A wood cabinet pull may even make a great butt cap.

Well if that is completely the case why can’t someone cast a 1/8oz jig just a far as a 1/2 oz on a rod rated from 3/8 to 3/4 oz lures. I prefer a rod that loads and unloads during a cast.

That is awesome to hear Aleks. I like to fly fish from a kayak where most of the cast are accurate short range so I think that shorter fiberglass rods are more ideal than carbon fiber. Then the flexibility to handle being high sticked which is almost impossible to not do in certain situations fighting a fish from a kayak. I have been searching for my ultimate kayak 6wt 7’6” to 7’10” but I underst

Aleks, the new fly rod blanks sounds awesome and very reasonably priced. Any chance there will be a line of all S2 Zentron unsanded fly rod blanks? Something like 7’3 to 8’3” 3 to 7 weight in 3 or 4 pieces. Right now there is a big gap between cheap imports and high $ high quality USA made blanks. Maybe your KDR 750 mandrel can be used to make a good fiberglass fly rod blank that a rodbuild

This is great to hear. The order I made last year was not the case but I even said then I hope the best for their business. There is not many made in the USA rod blank options around anymore which I feel personally is a shame.

I don’t build rods as a business only as a hobby whenever I have some free time which has not been often lately that being said we aren’t dealing with perishable or life saving products. A custom rod for Christmas should be ordered 3 months or more out to insure completion. Most companies I have dealt with will ship usps priority if I paid the extra cost when I needed an item more quickly. I thin

I am not sure if this was mentioned to you but wet the threads on the blank with water to get an idea how it darkens with epoxy. Gun metal gray regular will go clear with a dark tint without color preserver.

If the customer needs a rod blank with durability check out the Rod Geeks X Comps. I picked up a 730 blank awhile back but haven’t had the time to build it out yet with life getting in the way. When I do I will trim it down to 7’ for inshore, channel catfish and striped bass out of a kayak. It can be trimmed down to 6’6” with no reduction in power but I am sure it will slow the action down some b

My Barclay Synthesis 7’9” 4-5 weight parabolic fhas the stripper placed at 26.25 inches from the butt. My Lamiglas 7’4” 4 weight cut, ferruled and built out by Fred Paddock has the stripper at 27”. Both of these rods cast very well. The Lamiglas will load and cast with barely any fly line out of the tip. With that said many fiberglass fishers and builders tend to follow classic traditions suc
