Thomas, 100%. as Dave says, albeit more politely, a seat with a cutout is useless if the cutout doesn't allow contact with the blank. Except for purely visual reasons.

I also believe there's a bit too much finish in front of the foot.

If you can live with 9'6", look at the IST 1141 just below the one Spencer mentioned, also at Schneider's. It is however M, instead of M-fast.

I think a 20 is overkill at times: Revs 62 UL-2, 16 red. train. Lew's 1000 reel 18lb Gliss, 4g. wt., 97 ft. avg. cast. ( That's a lot farther than you could effectively fish it.) Mostly I use 20's. I think Jim (RIP) was trying to stay on the safe side. He also posted some nice handle/seat/trim assembly videos as others might, should do.

Kendall, I think you found the Holy Grail. If you're close to the perfect setup the guides don't have to do much work in the "loop taming" department . I have others praise Nano fil.

X10 Norm, and Kevin, these guys just throw stuff out there and we sit here trying to figure out how to use it. No useable info. We're still waiting for answers on the new CF guides from an earlier post.

Phil when you say Thorne Bros sells these blanks and components to the public, is it a walk in the store thing or do they sell online as well?

I use Citri-Strip myself and let it sit overnight, a few applications may be needed. It's a messy job. A scotchbrite pad helps a great deal. It has been stated on this forum that no common paint remover will harm blanks. I have no desire to test this theory.

44. For Marc Morrone
Marc, the MHX 812 is listed as ML. Would you say this was a fair assessment or would you say it was a bit more powerful than expected? The 813 is listed as M and it's numbers show it to be well into the MH range. So what do you think?

Thanks Mark, I'm trying to guess how much less powerful it might be than the SJ 813. Lol.

So Mike, are you saying I should pay myself for building it? What is my time worth as a hobby builder? Key word being hobby. My time is my own.

I agree, if you don't care about the warranty it is so worth it, and there is much money to be saved. I can almost mimic David's post.

I believe a conventional tip has to be used with these guides.

I always get rid of that hard ring with a chamfering tool before reaming.

I thought we went to blank thru handle to get away from this type of thing. No help I know, but that's where I'm at.

Somebody draw me a picture. I know we're talking about NFC foam winding checks, but beyond that I'm lost.

They appear to be completely smooth to me. Can the feet be tapered? (filed)
