Im doing some practice scales fade wrapping and keep losing track what methods do you recommend for not losing your place? For instance I was half way done and noticed one side of the black on one axis was shorter than the rest.

The rod is a 7 and a half foot Phoenix ultralight I only fish for trout and pan fish if I use a longer handle it catches on my coat when I try to fish underbrush and I have to cast side arm. It's a balanced now about 1 inch in front of real seat.

I can't stand a tip heavy rod either but I also don't like long rear grips, 6 inches maximum.I want my rods to balance at the reel stem. I am using burl corck and an aluminum butt cap any other ideas to add weight to bottom of rod. And thank you for your input.

I know there are no hard and fast rules. But was wondering what fisherman prefer but heavy or tip heavy. Most store bought rods seem to balance at the center of the spool.

Thanks for the info. I loosened the tension and packed as I went. Worked much better no more slipping and gouging the thread and causing fuzzy's.

I may be wrapping too many turns before I try to pack it. I usually go about 30 turn and then pack and I really have to push hard.I use a stainless cuticle tool. I always try to have that little angle where the thread rolls over and drops down on the rod.

168. Packing
When packing under wraps how tight is tight enough I keep slipping and making Fuzzy's because I try to pack it it's hard as I can. I already cut it off like 12 times.

I think you're right Bill when I was burnishing guide under wraps they came loose to. This is my first time with under wraps I was worried about being able to pack them tight enough so I loosened the tension.

What do you do when you have to stop in the middle when using hand wrapper.

Thanks Jay, thats what i'm looking for. The most accurate layout I can get. On a bare blank I use a drafters compass with two needle points and make little scratches.

has anyone tried putting scotch tape over the decal before putting it on the rod. I have problems with fingerprints on edge of decal . With scotch tape you could hold on to it while applying the decal and then you could take it off. Was wondering if this would work.
