Thanks but I don't have a problem with getting the edge straight. What happens is everytime the guide comes around I have to pull the brush away or slide it to the side. So I end up with little to no finish directly opposite the guide foot.

I have often wondered how much a butt wrap affects performance. Say a ten inch but wrap on a 7 ft rod I don't think that a person could tell the difference to one with no butt wrap. Now guide wraps are a different animal. I always use the lightest guides practical for the rod and intended use. And only 5 turns of A thread away from the toe is my method of determining how long the guide wrap wil

I am looking for tips for getting the finish around the guide legs when using a dryer to turn the rod. I have a very hard time getting the edge of the finish straight.

Tom Kirkman I know you are a huge fan of PG, I am too. The smell is the only reason I dont use it more. Can you recommend a brand or style of respirator if i got one i could use it as long as its warm enough outside that i can open a window to vent the smell. My wife hates it when the smell permeates the house.

Thanks guys Herb I mostly use soft plastic swim baits and spinner baits. Line is around 12lbs and not sure what reel but it will be a baitcast from a boat.

Looking for a Rod geeks blank that will work for most bass fishing set ups. I know I will have to sacrifice some things to get what I want but I only bass fish 2 or 3 times a year. Any recommendations?

I have used the pumps for years with no problem. Make sure you are letting them come all the way back up before you pump again.

Seth a customer wants a 8 and a half to 9 foot ultralight mod fast or faster and doesn't want a crappie rod ( he says they wont handle 1 or 2 lb test line). I thought that since fly rod generally have a softer tip they might work.

The reason I ask is because it's hard to find a ultralight blank longer than 6'6" so the choices are limited.

Is there any way to determine if a fly blank will work for an ultralight rod? IE a 3wt or 5wt

Jody Hahn for a single axis wrap you use the circ of the rod to get square spacing. For a double axis you divide the circ in half to get square spacing. You keep dividing by 2 for every additional axis. If you want a compressed pattern you use slightly shorter spacing if you want elongated slightly longer spacing. IE if the blank has a circ of 30mm for a single axis that number is what you use t

I would like for rod geeks to increase the options for ultralight blanks the longer the better. 7 or 8 feet is ideal.

Are you talking about deco wraps on guides or a deco wrap at the top of the grip. On guide wraps I keep everything to a minimum with the least amount of thread I can get by with. On a deco butt wrap as long as it stays below the stripper I doubt anyone can feel the difference between one with and one without.

Robert if the Mark's are visible then yes. But generally I make a dot at each cross point and no line. I use the but wrap alignment tool they sell at mud hole to keep the Mark's in a straight line.

On open wraps I use an extra fine point paint pen. Sharpie is my brand of choice but there are many different ones and all would probably work.

Thanks for all the replys I just wasn't sure which ring on the stripper to measure to and how critical it was to get an exact measurement.

Michael I was told to measure from the lip of the spool when it's as far forward as it can go. I asked the question because there was another thread about where to place the stripper guide and some of the answers indicated that it is very critical for for maximum performance.

When you measure for the stripper guide do you measure for the main ring or the reduction ring?

For me it depends on how strong the spine is. If it's very pronounced I will build on the spine if not i build on the straightest axis
