Not at all. We will be offering different models with different speeds and different price points and features. You bought a great motor that we will continue to sell.

Not only is there added expense and hassle with a jawed chuck, unless you lock them with a set screw they are not secure. I wonder how many rods have fallen out of jawed chucks?
My goal with our line of variable speed DC motors is to offer the best quality motor, that is hassle free from belts and complicated chucks, but features our original USA made slip clutch and self adjusting chuck, all

Thanks for trying the variable speed motor. I would like to say that I am in no way the single mastermind behind the whole deal, there were a few contributors to the idea (one in particular was a great help) and they know who they are ;)
There is nothing like finishing a rod at higher speed. I mean it. I literally fall asleep even thinking about doing it slower or by hand, but some

Our Flex Coat High Build, the one that came out over 40 years ago and all others are compared to, is still the same formula that it was then. We also offer Lite and Ultra-V formulas that are both superior finishes.
We have very specific best practices for a professional finish outlined in all our written instructions, books, and videos. Venturing outside of these best practices is d

Great topic...
99% of what we make and use to supply what we make is sourced right here in the USA. There will be no supply problems for Flex Coat products.

Great topic, we have a video in the works...
Roger Seiders designed Flex Coat brushes for rodbuilding by making the bristles shorter and finer than the typical cheap children's brush. The Flex Coat disposable brushes' bristles are 3/8" long and they are very fine (0.002" in thickness compared to three times that on others). The Yellow brushes have more bristles that are good for me

Without a doubt you will find that our slip clutch will make you finishing life easier. The Flex Coat slip clutch is made in the USA in a facility that manufactures parts for airplanes, rockets, and custom guns. The tolerances on our slip clutch are unmatched for trueness. Here is a video about it, go to the 5:50 mark to see the slip clutch in action.

Welcome to rod building. I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Preston but I am sure he taught you some great things.
We have great information and videos on our website and youtube channel that will help get you moving. Our Small Business Kit is a great place to start and is upgradable to a power wrapper in the future. Our equipment is OEM quality and built to last. Here is a l

I really think you should consider keeping that motor assembly a direct drive motor. You can put a dimmer switch from the hardware store that will slow it down and add a foot pedal. Using your hand as start and stop break will work great. The direct drive lets you hand wrap when convenient and lets you back up on a dime. No belts to maintain, replace or hassle with when backing up.

20 hours would make one heck of a fishing trip. I don't want a 20 hour project, I want to go fishing. If the customer wants art, give them art. If they want a fishing rod, give them the best performing fishing rod for their style of fishing.

Always consider just three things when building custom fishing rods:
Performance, Performance, and lastly Performance.
Think fighter jet, they look cool, too.

What are you using to make the mark? We like to mark with a black sharpie on the blank were the base of the guide foot will just cover it.
Denatured alcohol will take off most anything with ease and isn't as harsh as acetone.

We don't build many rods for sale, but when we do, we always offer a 100% money back warranty on every rod we make. There are only two terms of this warranty, walking 10 feet or 10 seconds, whichever comes first. And yes we do say that to all customers, and I have to say, we have never had any warranty issues.

Not our products, however...
We always say don't buy an amount that you can't use in one year, but it will still set up and work for many years. We say store Flex Coat in a cool, dark, and dry place. The resin can crystalize like honey and the hardener can turn amber over time, this is normal. You can and should melt the crystals in the resin by warming it up with hot water or a few seconds

When planning a shop or work space it is always good to keep in mind one key principle, you can't build them big enough.

I would think that the lite would be logical for the first coat to achieve quick and easy thread saturation and then follow that with the high build. For those that are into the TABOO of thinning the finish on the first coat might be interested in this technique. That is if you want to cross the streams, so to speak.
