Keith, you can,t go wrong with Flex Coat CP and sealer, but just recently i got some Seymo CP from Mudhole..i,m still testing it but looks good so far..i soaked a test wrap in a jar of water for 24 hours and it didn,t get cloudy or change in hardness..flex coat gets milky in three hours, which is really no problem because i don,t spear fish..lol..i still want to see how epoxy responds to it and h

Keith, i know i,m a nag about this but if your wraps are not sealed you will probably be spending too much time trying to get your wraps saturated with epoxy and for penetration of the wrap..if the wraps are sealed with CP epoxy goes on quicker and levels quicker..bubbles quickly come to the surface and pop..

does anyone make a 100% carbon rod? aren,t they mostly a blend with fiberglass in the tip section and graphite in the butt or lower modulus carbon in the tip..Mark like you i have gone back to glass rods..better fish fighting qualities and i like the slower gentler actions..getting old i guess..lol..even for fly rods, i find that using glass rods under eight feet i can use regular ceramic guides

hi Russell..rods that you build can easily carry the small differences i,m talking about..people who build fly rods or light to ultra light rods are more concerned about guide and wrap weights..for me that,s why the sealing of threads with CP are important..epoxy will level so much better on a sealed wrap..it doesn,t need to sink in and saturate the wrap..the wrap has already been saturated with

CP is also used for sealing guide wraps..this is just as important as color preservation..you can,t get epoxy to level on an unsealed wrap unless you keep gooping on the epoxy and end up with a wrap that weighs more than the guide itself..

Thanks Alex..does an extra fast rod skip better or easier than a moderate action or maybe it doesn,t matter..Thanks..

if your interested in building a rod for skipping, you want to understand the technique to some degree..i used to fish with two people who were skippers..one skipped plasiic worms like you would not believe and was written about in local paper after the outdoor writer fished with him once..he could easily skip the length of a twenty foot dock and it only stopped because it ran out of water..the o

it sounds like spinning is better for skipping worms and casting works best for skipping jigs and i guess dressed with some kind of plastic..does that sound about right..how long a rod works best and is their a best action..i guess spinning is different from casting..

i have read on this site about using casting outfits for skipping baits but why, is it more productive than a spinning outfit and is the rod any different than one used by spin fishers to skip..i would think it is easier with a spinning rod..any thoughts..

so, i guess the law of inertia is incorrect also..we can trash the constitution but i don,t think mother nature is going to let us trash this one..lol.

Ron, i don,t think he ever built a fishing rod..it,s just a kid or an adult with a kids mind having fun on his computer..Dave, all casts have a natural curve or arc as they go through the air but still follow the direction the guide tip put them on..in mid flight you may influence the arc by swinging the line to one side but that is actually making another cast because your moving the guide tip i

to add..i,ve made side arm casts where by whipping the line to the opposite side in flight, i can make a slight change in direction but really not much..this effect is easier to do with a fly line.

of course not Tom..that would negate all his arguements about spine..i just do not see how one can sell crooked rods but i guess there,s enough customers who worry about being sheeple..lol..i doubt if they become return customers..

rods built on the spine are generally crooked to some degree..how do you sell a customer a crooked rod..you don,t,,you build on the straightest axis or not get any repeat business..everybody who sells rods builds on the straight axis..the dollar wins again..lol.
