Called Winthrop directly and they assured me that both the Tip Top and Rollers have enough clearance to pass a swivel through them.

Getting ready to build 2 Stand up rods 50lb class. This build will be using Winthrop components specifically the Excel series set of guides along with the WT-AT Tip Top. My question is are both Tip Top and rollers large enough to pass a large swivel or crimp through the roller? My last build used Aftco Regular rollers and Large head tip top. My customer loves them but when bringing the 25 ft. lea

Yes they have as well as availability too. Aluminum Short butts from American Tackle seem to be scarce. No longer the price break either for the silver/chrome.

Been buildings rods for quite sometime but this kind of charge is stumping me. Built 6 Stand-up rods and 2 wire line rods awhile ago. My customer was recently divorced so I have to do a name change on all of his rods, Enough said there. It involves ordering 8 new decals, black overwrap over the old decals, new coat of epoxy in preparation for the new decals, Placing new decals on each rod, a

Thanks for the reply! Taig is the word I’m looking for. That is a quality chuck. Would have purchased one of these but with all the components needed to complete the “setup” it would cost a great deal more.

Getting ready to purchase a new Power wrapper and would like to hear from those of you who own either the ALPS upgraded chuck or the RBS -Pro Power wrapper. Which do you find is the better quality and are the chucks identical? Any input would be greatly appreciated!

So I have returned from Aruba, was hoping the cracking noise was related to the epoxy not being fully cured. However I still have the noise every time the rod is flexed. Finishing up on the second build and we’ll see if it happens again. In the meantime still very much open to suggestions! Thanks all

20. U40
I have some U40 Epoxy Paste about 5 yrs old that I discovered. The hardener has a slightly darker amber appearance than the new paste I just acquired. I mixed a batch of this and it cured fine. My question is there a shelf life on this product, will it not perform the same as the newer batch that I have or should I just throw it out?

Started my 2nd build, will see what if it happens again, My stand-up rod is a Batson Rainshadow RX6 & Eglass blank RCTB56H X-Fast 40-80lb. Trimmed at the tip -1” and at the butt -16 1/4”, using an American Tackle short straight butt. Total length is 5’6”. The roller guides are Aftco HD Chrome. I know this is irrelevant to noise problem, just sharing this information just to compare notes. T

Just completed the 1st of 6 Stand-up rods. Each giuide was under wrapped and 2 over wraps. In other words, triple wrapped. Used Treadmaster epoxy on the underwrap and both overwraps. Let the epoxy cure and after 4 days decided to flex the rod. Hearing what appears to be a crackling noise and noticed using my head magnifier hairline fractures at the tip of the guide feet. Have built my share of
