4. dark shadows
After the first application of epoxy {thread master lite} I have dark bleed through areas at each foot of hook keeper. Two coats of undiluted CP Theadmaster prior.
I have only sealed the threads above the forgrip, no guides. This has never occured before in 15 years of builds.
There is a recent thread above that indicates this maybe caused by CP. The blank is a painted SV 5 from Rod Geeks.

Did some digging. Site has been up 4 months. Country of origin is sketchy. Owners are hidden. The authentic Mudhole has to be concerned and somewhat @#$%&.

8. mudholez
After finding Minima match guides out of Mudhole stock I began searching for them via the internet rod building sites.
This "Mudholez" site eventually appeared. They present a very close parallel to the legit Mudhole.
Whats the deal here? Anyone know?

Bill,
I have no shifting or problems on cutting in the jig. I wrap about 2 times with 1/4" masking tape on the ring before it even goes in the jig. This helps keep ring from shifting as each saw cut..in my case 8...goes through. My problem is when gluing the ring keeping each of the 16 pieces from rotating bit. As I rotate the completed glued rings each shade will stair step for the effect.

I am alternately gluing a rotation of 4 shades of cork that are cut into 1/16" sections. I am looking for some tips when I zip tie ring to keep each small section "square" in pie ring. Have glued these up before and used individually however i am building an Indian Blanket style handle and when I stack the 3 I have completed they don't line up perfectly. 16 pieces are difficu

Do these time estimates include slicing, glueing and shaping a cork handle. drilling out the cork. setting up reel seat and final fitting ?
I bet I had 20 hours on my last rod which was a 2 pc. salmon rod. this was probably my 20th build. I guess I'm slow but I enjoy every second!
Will be at show with my brothers.

18. phenix mirage
I am starting a rod on a Phenix MirageMF711 UL. Still working on handle and reel seat, but am concerned when I start wrapping guides. Blank has spiral raised ridges. How do you deal with packing tight wraps on this finish. I dont think I should sand down a blank finish meant to be what it is now. Thanks for any tips.

I just purchased a Phenix Mirage MF-711-1 blank for a new build. Got from Mudhole and talked to them after I received it. Blank has rough finish which I'm being told is part of blanks specs. Love action, and will build rod......Has anyone built from a Mirage blank,do you like finish, what does completed rod pair with finish. I am also told not to sand it...probably defeats purpose of design I sup

Going down to Venice,La. in early fall . Fishing primarly for Redfish and trout. Being mostly a fresh water guy I am not familiar with a couple of things I researched. Want to build a Casting rod befor I go. I was told we should spool up with 30# braid, cast 1/4 to 3/8 oz. jigs. Also what I've read said medium to light rods. Is medium and light in fresh water same as in salt water? Would reall
