So I built my first spiral wrapped rod, and LOVE it. I am prepping a blank for strictly top water baits, any reason why a spiral wrap wouldn't be good for this build. My other rod with the spiral i made for pitching and throwing chatterbaits.

So the more I look that Point Blank PB691MXF and the Hydra SJ813 maybe be my better options. Thanks for the input David, always seem to get good advice from you and the rest of the board!

The RodGeeks option is very intriguing but the listed weight on the website is 3 ounces, which is a pretty hefty blank. Like the concept but thinking that may be a bit heavy overall. David the Quickline blanks, are you implying they are not as durable an option?

Never used a 6'9 for drop shot, though I assume the shorter rod may even add to sensitivity - my neko rig is 6'9 but ML to Light powered. My only issue with the blank is I feel it may be more geared towards what Norman eluded to and that is jerkbaits and walking baits. Again I don't have the blank, so purely going on specs and previous experiences with other blanks, though I know this is a whol

Weights are mostly 1/8 to 1/4 as well - and I know the Zebra Mussels are an issue not controlled by the rod. More line management than anything else.

So guys I have a build I am doing for myself that is pretty specific to a lake I fish. Last year I used my ML Castaway blank I had built up on the lake to drop shot largemouth (biggest was in the 6 range), but regularly see 4-6 pounders here. My issue was two fold: 1. This lake has a TON of millfoil, and often fish deep edges here, with the ML I tended to stay loose on the drag and had some

So I am looking to build a rod for myself finally - seem like all I do is build for others especially this time of year.... Was looking at the NFC X-Ray blank, specifically in a spinning rod build to throw Neko Rigs - mainly in open water and scattered cover. My thoughts were the DS 721 or the SJ 732, but I don't have any experience with these blanks. The 732 seems like it may be more in line w

So I cut down the blank to 4 feet in length, and chose to do the under spin setup, so down the road we can convert him to spinning.... I have an assortment of left over FUJI KLH guides left over, actually too many haha. I do my builds on Microwave guides now, so I rarely use the conventional style layouts... Was trying to determine the guide sizes for this short of a rod. Any advice

Yeah - I don't mind building him a rod, plus I am not looking at getting him some cheap rod that I will spend 30 bucks on that wont last more than a season. This being said, I have most the components already, so it is not like it was a big deal. I agree with John the snoopy rods at the store just seemed like it would lessen the experience, my nephews grew up on those type rods and they were al

Hey guys my little guy 3yrs old wants his own fishing rod, but doesn’t want one of the cheap ones u seen at the stroes, can’t blame him. Figured I would him his own with some spare guides and cork etc from other builds. Ordered him a red blank from MudHole and was trying to determine how long to make it before I cut it down to size. He will be approaching 4 next summer and figure he uses this a

Figured that the Micro/Air Waves would be slightly taller than normal guides and would help to keep the line away from the blank. Not married to the idea of using these, what guide types are most having success with? Stacking should not be a major issue in this build, as the rod is only going to be used for pitching and wont have enough line coming off the reel to really see the issue.

It’s a pitching rod, more likely 20 pound test flouro normally and lures of around 3/8-3/4 ounces. Texas rigged creature baits... I normally use Microwave guides, just really like the results with Microwaves just wasn’t sure they were good for a spiral wrap. As far as placement on the blank how many guides does it usually take to transition around the blank. Have some ideas as to the layout just

Well it’s Xmas season and it’s time to build some rods for presents... One of my presents will be a pitching rod built on a 7’6” Blank from American Tackle. Looking to do my first spiral wrap (casting) and was hoping to get some input or advice on guides and sizes that have worked best.

Anyone have any experiences with the Titan Ring Lock guides, are these a light weight guide, like the Fuji Titanium SiC guides but the price has me looking in a different direction. Would you reccomend these Ring Lock guides, or a different set.

Anyone ever use a carbon fiber decal on the split grip area of a blank? I ordered a carbon fiber decal in a vinyl type material, not sure if I can epoxy over this product. Planning to use Flexcoat HiBuild. Do you think this will work

What kind of action does the CB70M impart. An do you think the Glass/Graphite action will be better suited for the cranks. The CB70M seems really light.

Do you think the RDR70L would compliment the Medium blank to throw light crankbaits in 1/4 ounce range. So the RDR70M is more for 1/2 - 5/8. Does it have the soft slower action?

Can you apply epoxy over a Carbon Fiber Decal from an auto place? I am sure this is not a question that the company is asked often or if ever. I see most Carbin Fiber Vinyl decal only last 4 years outside, will the epoxy lengthen the life. Thinking of doing the same - just not sure if this will work and last

I saw in another post that someone was asking about using a Baston RDR70M as a crankbait rod. I was looking into building a similar rod mainly for crankbaits and was hoping anyone could give me their insight on this blank - and it's action for this presentation. For the money this looks like a steal
