With a rubber one I sliced it apart with a razor blade, put in on, and you couldn't really notice it was cut. I know how you feel, though. When I first started to wrap rods it would be a big deal to wrap one over for a fix. But, as I got better I don't hesitate to remove a guide an re-wrap so I'm satisfied. You got good advice here, as always. We all make mistakes.

I also use TM Lite and apply 2 coats. That's plenty for me. I never had to scuff the first coat either.

Thanks, all. I am thinking that if I can get an o-ring snug against the second locking ring that should do the trick?

Hey Phil, where to you get those O rings? I have two locking rings on my favorite fly rod and both of them are backing off. Any ideas?

I've always used denatured alcohol. Is it the same thing? I was taught that it was the safest.

I don't put them on all rods, but I'm fine with using a hook keeper, too. To me it doesn't make much difference.

Isn't St. Croix making rods anymore? I didn't know. Geez, that a favorite of mine.

I used to mix my Threadmaster Lite finish and then place the container in hot water. My finish was setting up too quickly until I figured out it was the too hot water. I found lukewarm at best works.

A guy near me builds on them and he says they're nice blanks, but he sells them so I don't know for sure. I'm looking to build a Czech nymph rod, too.

I have no experience with Czech Nymph blanks. I'm asking for recommendations on a blank I can build on for myself. I appreciate your help. I'm looking for a 10' 3 or 4 wt.

Is the glue stick used in a cheap glue gun the same as what we use to attach tip tops? Just curious. I have a glue gun and glue sticks.

What are the pros and cons of using color preserver on thread wraps? I never use it and some guys say they use it on every build. Doesn't it just do what it says, preserve colors?

Is that the same hot mail glue that's used in a glue gun? Seems like if it is, it would be easier to squeeze glue on to the tip with a glue gun. Any thoughts on that?

I like Quik Bond for rod building, but I've never used it for installing a tip top until right now. I've always used the glue stick. Is there any reason I should worry? Thanks, Bruce

I looked at my records and the guide configuration I posted in the previous thread was for a St. Croix 9 ft., 6 wt. I used 12, 6 & 2s to an oversized loop top. I have an extra set. Could I use the extra set for the 5 wt.? I ordered a SCII, SCIV, 2-piece kit from Mud Hole because it was the cheapest way for me to go. It has guides with it. Opinions, please. Thanks in Advance

What do you think of this configuration. I used it before and just wonder if anything has changed. I plan to use it on a 2-piece rod. How about: 12, 6, and size 2s to the tip? I'm going to get an oversized loop tip top. This set-up seemed to work well for me on some other builds. I'm thinking up locking reel seat and half wells handle.

To me locking wraps serve no purpose. But, if it makes you feel more confident, use them.
