Tom, My wife and I truly enjoy attending the rod show each and every year since my very first time coming. We know we are really blessed to live close enough to get to meet and greet and make acquaintances with all the people involved in the craft of rod building! From an attendee viewpoint it appears that the convention center is an ideal location with many a attraction to boot! Great

Steve, Good to see you. I remember once asking Bill Poe in his opinion what would be the best rod or length of rod to pitch with? And as you know Bill lived and sold the Loomis's so much. He said a 783. That isn't that much of a long rod but I guess he based that off what his clients wanted or he sold and got the most feedback on.

Once again, another well attended show even with the messy weather on Sat. throughout the day. Many thanks to all the vendors that come together for such an event all in one place to compare products. NERBS booth was incredible with the display of rods they brought and with the planning for the past year was 100%. Hats off! SRB had new products here in the states to look at from unique

I am like Jim too. I do not think that there is any wrapper offered such as Roger speaks of and this isn’t near the first time I have read of Rogers setup either. Batson, AT, CPW, PB etc could or should listen to their customers or either offer a retrofit to upgrade the already thousands of wrappers out there. I know that I would be interesting in it. Bill you hear us? This could be the

What are the carbon fiber grips finished with? I mean what type of coating? I too have never experienced building any rods other than with EVA and cork and am new to this so I too like the idea of the carbon for its sensitivity and lightweight characteristics. Can carbon fiber grips be left un-coated or un-finished and if they can be would they hold up? Somewhere or someone maybe on he

Thanks Bill I will. This for my wife's build. I've been looking for a reel seat that would fit and from the catalog the SK2 is the one. I'm sure Jim or someone there can tell exactly if and what will work to be sure. She really likes the gold striped trim rings that they are using w the Winn Grips where in the catalog they are using the red trim. Arthur Moody

I was looking through some old catalogs and love the picture in the center of the 2017 Anglers Resource catalog. I would like to build a spinning rod using a size 16 seat like the one in the photo using gold trim rings without a carbon tube and fore grip. I would prefer to use a one piece seat with the gold trim at the end. Is this possible and does anyone have suggestions for seats to use with

Tom, Much thanks for all the hard work and time put in to another great show! My wife and I truly enjoy going and mingling around and picking out different products to try out each year. Billy is spot on ...there is a lot of fun and fellowship and just getting to know other people makes it so appealing in today's market of expositions to attend. If anyone can or wants to come to NC to get

I, like many got to meet Ken at the ICRBE and also attended some of his seminars to boot. I would only add to what was already said above. I remember Ken speaking and telling us about the UV curing method for a quick repair to rod guides and him saying that he thought that it possibly was a awesome and fast way to get the rod back to the customer in a timely manner especially the charter fleet

Yes, that name was often called upon while on the BFHP, Bass Fishing Home Page message board. Although, that board is a board that if I remember correctly mostly bass enthusiasts was Dorge offered much info and advice to the constructing and building of surf rods and low riders, and amongst the alloy used in the making up of various different guides. He kinda disappeared and didn't see his post m

Spencer, I checked and have that book you mentioned. Fly, spinning, casting, trolling everything you need to know. Also got a couple of cds put out by Tom Kirkman on dec wraps and shaping grips but those will into perspective a little down the road. Thanks Nick, good video you put together Guide sizes for this 7-6"?? After getting acquainted with a helpful builder at the show w

Wanted to re-introduce myself to the board as its been a long while since I first posted but often come here to gain info and learn new things about building rods. if I can get "my feet really wet" I'll guess I'll get in the groove of trying to put together my first rod although I will not mention of how long I have had some of them laying around the house needing to be done while

Hello, I am need of some knowledge from experienced rod builders that know more than I on the purchase of a used surf rod. This particular rod has cork tape wrapped for the grip material and over the cork tape is what appears that the builder has done is wrapped a X pattern of thread OVER the cork tape on the fore grip section of the handle. If my memory is correct I think that I have seen so

Tom My wife and I attended the Expo and we thoroughly enjoyed it! She enjoys attending with me and learning too, which makes it all the more worthwhile. As she said to you the lighting just added "ambiance" and she said it simulated a sunset on the water, which was most appropriate for the event. Besides most everyone had phones with flashlights and if not the vendors were apologe
