This is the biggest smallie I have ever caught and/or seen. She is 23.5 inches, girth about 22", estimated weight is 8.5-9 pounds. The rod is a MHX 7'3" LF with a carbon fiber handle. My opinion is the rod is actually closer to XF-light.

Hey everybody, I have been thinking about building an ultra light using the Iron Feather 7'1". Has anybody built using this blank? Is there another blank like this out there? I am looking for an extra fast ultra light blank, not fast or MF. This is not an easy blank to find.

I hae made a couple using the RodGeeks C473MHXS and does a great job. I have built using SC5MXF and a couple with MHX and the RodGeeks perform the best.

I have built a dozen rods using the blank that Kendall discussed and using the SCV76MLXF. I use these rods for livebait rigging smallies up in the upper midwest, Great Lakes. For what you are describing I would be leaning toward the 7'6" MLXF. That blank has a great tip and plenty of backbone. Between my guiding customers, friends and myself we have put tons of big smallies in the boat on

I have built a lot of trolling rods for walleye. The best have always been from hot shot blanks. I have used St. Croix and Loomis in the past. The last few years I have been using RodGeek and NFC Delta series. I use 8'-8'2" one piece for most of my rods. Otherwise 8'-9' two piece. The hotshot blank has excellent power and extra fast tip. I would use at least a 2" fore grip. Most walleye

The blanks are still available through RodGeeks. One thing I could always count on was St. Croix's consistent quality. I knew what I was getting. The only thing that could of happened is if they had to remake the mandrel. Also. there is a big difference between a 1/8 oz. jig and a 3/8oz. I pitch a lot of that size too and would not be using the same rod. You might want to look at the SCV610MLXF

I have built a number of rods with the MHX NSJ870 and it is the best rod I have found for fishing 1/16-oz. hair jigs and Ned rigs. I have built a couple of rods using the MHX NSJ871 which I use for 1/16 oz tubes, 1/8 hair jigs and Ned rigs. They are the best rods I have used for these presentations. I have used similar blanks from St. Croix SCV and Loomis GLX. I like the performance of the MHX be

I have built quite a few rod on the Delta blanks and I don't think they are glass, pretty sure all carbon. That blank might be a little stout for jerk baits and a 3/8oz spinnerbait. Maybe look at the HR blanks and trim one of them.

Mike, Look at Rodgeeks C473MHXS. I have built 3 off of that blank for ripping raps and shiver minnows. I am very happy with this blank and so is the other guys that have them. I am building 2 more right now with the same blank.

I have built rods for lindy rigging/bottom bouncing using NFC Hot shot blanks. They turned out great. Built 3 of each three spinning and three spiral wrapped with bait casting reels. I like the Ambassador 5000 line counters.

I have built using the NSJ870-MHX and the NSJ871-MHX and they make excellent rods for hair jigs. I use 1/32-1/8oz and these blanks teamed with Nanofil line and you can pitch them long distance and they have plenty of backbone and length for setting the hook.

MSDS's hasn't been used in about 3 years. Look for SDS, that is the standard now.

Just call St. Croix. They will take care of you and it is reasonable.

Call St. Croix. Either way it will be coming from St. Croix. Rodgeeks does not handle all of the SCV blanks. I had two break last year. Replaced through St. Croix, $90 each plus shipping.

Hands done the best Ned rig blank is either the MHX NSJ870-MHX or the MHX NSJ871-MHX blanks. I have built and used both of these plus several St. Croix SCV 7'-7'6" blanks and the MHX are the best for this. It depends on the size of jig you are throwing as to which rod you will you. I use these rods for fishing hair jigs, small tube (1/16 oz. 2.5 inch) and ned rigs for smallmouth on the grea

Hey everybody, Looking for a black holographic thread for wrapping guides. Pro wrap just came out with holo thread but, no black. Has anybody found one that they liked. Used to use the Gudebrod holo and the new pro wrap sounds and looks just like it. I liked the Gudebrod holo and it stood up over the years. Built one on a St. Croix SCV76MLXF blank about 10-12 years ago and thread was

Don't forget if you are selling rods you have to pay Federal Excise tax. You don't want to mess with them.

I built 2 sets of 6 trolling rods last season. I made them for pulling boards and for pulling flies. We use 2 oz weights. I used NFC Hotshot blanks. Take a look at NFC Delta Hotshot rods. I have tried a bunch of different rods for this. These are the best action I have used. They are available 7'6" on up.

It has been a while since I did any serious sucker fishing but, I have built a bunch of rods from ice rods for gills to off-shore rods for sailfish. When I get back to sucker fishing and I will. I will be looking at saltwater live bait rods. They are made for live bait fishing with bait that might weight 5-10 pounds. They typically have a very fast, light tip and a ton of power. I built a couple

If the rod is for you, whatever is most comfortable. I would go with smallest tube that feels good. What are you planning to use for bushings/arbors. The issue is how small the rod butt diameters. The advantage of carbon fiber is weight and sensitivity but, you may loss that with tape arbors. Making your own arbors with expanding foam maybe your answer for arbors. I only use CF.

27. Weight
Has anyone actually ever weighed guides to compare? I weighed a #6 minima running/fly guide black/chrome and a #6 Fuji L black/alconite. To my surprise the Fuji was lighter. So, how "light" is a recoil compared to a GSFG TiChrome Single Foot Fly Guide? Is it that big a difference? I am building custom ice rods that are hand turned to make the tip very fast, light. so, weigh

I do my own labels and normally have too laydown a base of white for the label. I am using an airbrush, pain in the butt. It does a great job, easy to lay nice even coat. But, it takes a lot of time prepping the paint and constantly needing to clean it every time. I am looking at the Copic marker airbrush system. My concern is they don’t have an opaque white. They have “off” whites. Has anybody

You know what, That ain't so crazy. I would certainly gets some looks. I would be it will be the only one like it. What about the tip? Do you know where I could get a double tip with 180 degree placement of opposing guide rings? Not really a hardcore musky fisherman. Matter of fact I will spend more time tossing for big big this year. Just using lighter stuff, like 1oz spinnerbaits or 7' twitch
