although I use wiley x nowadays, the best polarising effect I ever had with fishing sunglasses was with the H3O sunglasses... Only problem I had is that the "surge" model I had was too small for my head, so the wiley x looks cooler :-) H3O had great customer service too! Greetz from Belgium Jeroen

Hi, Great to see that there are manufacturers that are putting effort in finding new handle materials. Few questions: How does it glue? I know EPDM has good chemical resistance, but maybe that makes it harder to bond it with epoxy? How does it feel...hard (like matagi eva), or soft (like the "cheaper" eva) Thank you!

Thanks for the info Gregg! I understand it is not always easy to name brands, but I assume you are talking about the flexcoat products (30-minute epoxy)? I'll give it a go! Greetings from Antwerp! Jeroen

I am not an expert, but I think comparing the normal MHX blanks with st-croix SCIV is a rather bold statement don't you think so?

Hi, I ordered some syncork a few years ago from thorne bros... It looks promising but I have to admit I had some issues working with it. Lonnie advised me to use normal five minute epoxy but personally I don't like that because it hardens too fast and that can be an issue with long handles. So here is my question: Will normal rod bond do the job also? Another problem I had was that there were

First of all thanks for the reply. @Nick: Very good point and I have thought about that myself too. The blank I am talking about about is a CTS baycaster (cb 802-2) and I have this little demon in my head that says "build this blank to be the best and lightest rod possible" :-). But I agree that you are probably right and it is overkill, especially for that type of fishing. Greetz,

Hi, What do you guys think about using the torzite casting guides (double leg frame T-KWTG) on a pike/musky rod? I know st-croix uses them on their new legend elite musky rods but when I look at these guides the frames seem a little light for casting heavy baits (2-4 oz). Also, It seems that st-croix uses a slightly heavier frames version of these guides, but I'm not sure about that. Thanks in

It could be that I am mistaking... If that is the case I apologize! I just thought that these musky rods had "heavier" guides!... Thanks guys! Jeroen

Hi all, I have a question about the st croix factory musky rods... When you look at the legend tournament musky rods, they have the fuji K casting guides on them but they are some sort of "heavy duty" versions that don't seem to be available for small rod builders... What I mean is that the frames are more heavy duty than the regular ones. I know that with the normal fuji casting gu

I do realise now that the guide where the breakage took place might have sat on its outer point as Mr Kirkman said...

Thank you very much everybody for the replies! I am 99 % sure that there were no Sharp edges on the guides as I grinded and even polished the edges myself! I also flexed the blank multiple times before building it so I don't think there was a real defect... I must admit that I wrapped them as thight as possible...any thighter and the thread (gudebrod A) would brake... I realise now that I pro

Hi All, I recently broke a MHX rod (that was just finished) while flexing it. the blank was the L905-2-MHX in 7'6". It broke right onder a guide wrap and it really surprised me. Is it possible that too much tension on the thread can cause blank breakage? I do wrap my guides really tight but now I think maybe I should not do this... Thanks in advance, greetz, Jeroen

Thank you very much for the replies... I never thought about it that way but I guess Tom has a good point about flex/action being more of an issue than strength...

Hi, I was wondering... Can a 1-piece blank be cut and made into a 2-piece without sacrificing any strength? If so... What would be the best way to do so? I was thinking about cutting and glueing a full graphite ferrule in the lowerr part... What do you think? Thanks,

Hi, I'm thinking of buying a CTS elite SD 7'6" 3-piece blank for travelling! Does anyone here have experience with the cts blanks in travel versions (3 or 4 pieces)? I love their blanks but I'm a bit worried the action Will change too much when ordering the blank in more than 2 pieces! Thanks in advance! All the best, Jeroen

Hi Guys, I'm thinking of using EVA for a handle for the first time and I have a question... Are there differences in the Quality of EVA or is it all the Same stuff? I bought some big EVA Blocks from mudhole that I can shape myself but I read something about "high density EVA" and I was wondering if there is some EVA that is stronger or more chip resistant than some others? Half Belgian, half scottish...You must be one @#$%&. of a drinker then Mike ;-) Duplex and superduplex are very corrosion resistant and tough stainless steels that are used in all kinds of industries! A lot of the bolts and nuts of our very large pumps at work are in these materials as they have good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. I've just turned some trim rings and winding che

Thank you for all your input folks! What I actually meant was winding checks, trim rings etc... in titanium alloys that are light and don't rust (like for example grade 5) I did not mean "pure" titanium, so I apologie for the confusion! Then again...don't blame me...I'm Belgian :-) Grtz,

I find that hard to believe Michael... so what you are actually saying is that if I buy a bar of titanium grade 5 (which, if you like is actually an alloy since it contains Al. And Va.) and I turn a winding check out of it, it Will react with air as in some from of corrosion? I am no specialist but I don't believe this! I work in the water treatment industry and we use alot of duplexsteels which

Hi, I just wanted to ask if anyone knows why there isn't a single rodbuilding manufacterer that supplies solid titanium winding checks, trim rings and other rod building metal parts? I used to find them in the Matagi catalogue (fuji metal parts) but I believe they also don't sell them anymore...I never understood why people spend a lot of money on solid titanium guides and then finish a custom r

Hi, I'm building a rod for myself and I put 2 very thin coats of flexcoat ultra V (high build) over the st-croix decal. I'd like to put a third thin coat over it but it was almost a month ago since the second coat... I previously never waited more then 24 hours between coats... In other words...can you put another coat of epoxy over one that is allready fully hardened? I'm a bit afraid i

2- and 3-piece blanks! 8'-9' pike (heavy bass) blanks: think the 7'11" heavy flipping sticks but in 8'6" or even better 9' in a 2-piece. I think this would be a guaranteed seller for us here in europe! longer UL blanks (7'-8')! great mudhole is asking this here! cheers!

Hi, I'm Jeroen from Belgium, I've recently finished my first rod (st-croix SC2) and I think I'm addicted...instead of going fishing I spend most of my free time behind my wrapper :-) I'm working on my second rod now (st-croix 7'11" SCV) which I will use for pike fishing. I want to build it with fuji titanium sic guides and all titanium components. the only problem I have is finding a ti

Beside for the looks , some say it also helps to "protect" the cork from damaging when the screw nut of the reel-seat is screwed all the way up onto the cork... grtz!
