I have an old rod and I do not like the tuff butt. I want to put on Hypalon instead. But when I heat the butt its just melts. Should I use a dremel too and cut straight down then pry it off?

I am looking to get some ideas for a rod that I am having built. I would like red over wraps with white underwraps. I think I recall a few pictures on this site that looked great but can't find them. Does anyone have any?

OH yea I have done the test and the drag is the same no matter what the lenght of the rod. Just wondering if there was a general theory on the rod building community. How much extra pressure do guides add if any? I have found that rollers add none. What about ring guides?

Lets say you have a reel and set it at 8lbs of drag. You put it on a 9ft rod and pull line to test the drag, then you put the same reel, same drag setting on a 6ft rod and test the drag. Which rod will test out higher? Or will they both be the same? I am trying to see if rod length effects drag.

Sounds like using a bottle of plastic container causes too much heat and that I am mixing it too much. Is qucik bond and ultimate gel as good as 2 part epoxy?

Ive been building rods for about 4 years (all light to heacy saltwater) and still the part I hate the most is gluing the grips, hancle, reel seat ect... I use the flexcoast slow dry epoxy. For a small amount of glue in mix in the small measuring cups. Stir for about 3 minutes. If I need alot of glue I take either the resin and dump it into the harder and mix. I only do this when they are both

I am trying to put X Wrap over 2 layers of cork tape. How do you guys get it too look nice where the cork meet the reel seat and gimbal? It almost looks like in some pics that the x wrap is nicely curled under the cork. You cant even notice that there is cork

I recently purchased some x-shrink wrap. I was going to put it over eva foam. I was given double sided tape to put on the grip then the x-tube over it. The tape was very hard to get even & once I shrunk the wrap on it, it made the grip way to wide. How do you guys on the west coast do it? All the rods w/ x-wrap I have seen are the same diameter as the normal hypalon grip and you can’t

Are you fishing for school size bluefin or giants? I know the giants are around there later this summer. I would find out if you going for 30lb or 500lb fish. I just made a GF765ML for 60lb test with aftco rollers.

I wasnt looking to make a living just some extra cash. But buying wholesale kills my profits. Im already just doing it for friends, I dont always charge top dollar. I may build about 25-50 rods a year.
