My best purchase has been a good insurance plan to cover the surgery and therapy that I had in March on my casting shoulder!

After burnishing the top threads, I put heat on the threads with a heat gun. After it has cooled I then remove the sacrificial threads. I try to not pull on the threads. Turn the rod and only apply enough pull to get the threads to drop off the bottom of the rod. Then apply CP by dripping it on the rod without touching the thread with the brush any more than you need to, using a very long, soft b

I have made it a habit of when using the sponsors on the left I do so by going to their website through this page. I was thinking that maybe they could tell if their sponsorship was getting noticed. Anyway, I noticed that NFC is no longer a sponsor. That makes me sad.

Thanks Phil, I read all of your posts and you always make me think about rod building in a different light.. I have a NFC LMX SW 764-1 Medium action 7'6" 10-20 lb 3/8- 2 1/3 oz blank that I purchased a while back with some other NFC blanks. I am a trout/fly fisherman. I can't remember exactly why I purchased this blank. I do have some bass fishing friends that I could build this rod for. I'm looking for suggestions from you Bass guys as to what the best purpose for this blank would be. Thanks.

I use my power wrapper to wrap 5' ultra lights and 13' spey rods. I rarely use the actual power option. When wrapping, I use it like a hand wrapper. I find the smoothness of the blanks rolling on the bearing supports very comfortable. I have 12' of base and can move the supports to the area of the softer blanks into position to prevent blank flex from interfering with wrapping. I really like bei

Place the rod on a padded chair bottom with the ferrule on the pad, roll the rod apply in pressure on both ends causing the rod to bend in the middle. The one that I had stuck was a 9x9 G Loomis 3pc Cross Current fly rod. I tried the ice and every type of lubricant that I could find. I used all thread with washers and nuts between the guides as a spreader. Nothing worked. I thought that every tim

i Believe you are right. Something has changed. Even with the deep discount they have now, my last 2 orders have been received quickly. The first was within a week and the second within 2 weeks. I am in West Virginia and during the Christmas shipping time too. I have to say that I really like the quality of their blanks, plus Made in the USA. doesn't get ant better than that.

Anyone out there know what thread would match the orange of the Texas Longhorns? I have the burnt orange from ProWrap but it seems to be a little more orange than needed. The ProWrap that I have is the color fast version. I am using it on a white blank. Thanks

I use a small triangle file. With just a few times around the blank and it is done. You can finish with a flat file to make the cut straight if needed. There is no flying graphite particles.

I have a CF grip that is not as smooth as it should be. I believe that it has some dust particles in the top coat. The top coat is PG. Can I sand it lightly and put another coat of PG on it. This time without the fan running!!!

I have used the Microwave guides on several long lightweight rods and the perform great. I build 10' and longer spinning rods on 3 and 4 weight fly rod blanks. They are being used for fishing for trout in lakes. They are set up with 2 or 4lb test line and light weight baits. I do a static test for guide placement. I have tried other guides, but I like the Microwave the best for this application.

If I don't wan the ferrule wrap to show I will do wrap with nylon tread in the same color as the blank and finish without CP.

Another source for learning is your local fishing clubs. You will find that they often have members that are rod builders. My local Trout Unlimited has rod building classes every year. It also has many members that will help anyone that wants to learn how to build a rod. It's hard to beat the one on one teaching and having someone a phone call away to help when you have questions.
