I have built several rods for bluecat fishing using RodGeeks X-comp blanks (love the color options) and they make very good catfish rods. My other rods are built on Seeker Black Steel blanks which have a slightly softer tip than the X-Comps. Both work great for dragging baits and circle hooks. Cant go wrong with either.

I'm rebuilding some catfish rods and want to underwrap the guides. If I use Permagloss on the underwrap how long do I need to wait to wrap guides and finish with flexcoat?

The graphite tubing is definitely an option, I like the look of some type of cork normally, but even if I used a 2 1/2 inch section in the middle of tne grip where it contacts the Monster rod holder and did the rest in some type of cork it might be worth a look. The tubing highlighted with blue should be a good match with the cobalt blue Alps aluminum reel seat. Thanks again to all

I have heat shrink, but Im not too fond of it. I'll probably go with natural cork or burl matched with a 2 1/2 ' rubberized cork insert in the center of grip ( works with rod in either 33 or 45 degree position)and 1" right behind handle. This is what I've done many times and it works great, I just would like to get away from the rubberized product. I have several different colors but I'm hav

The contact points are narrow , only contacts one ring in two places ,the first ring behind the handle and another approximately 6" down the handle. I've put rubberized cork in those positions with the large butt Seeker blanks, but on the builds with the smaller diameter Rodgeeks X-Comp blanks I would like to only use natural cork or burl cork which I think would result in a cleaner nicer l

I'm building catfish rods to be used in Monster rod holders to fish for Blue Catfish. I''ll be building on Rodgeeks 802 and 803 X-Comps. At the pressure points of the rod holders the blank OD's will be between .600 and .650". The Revo Toro Beast reels I use are usually drag set between 15 and 20 lbs. I've allways built on Seeker blanks, (which are very nice} that have a much larger butt OD,

Zac, I use the guides James mentions, if you like stainless with no insert the Forecast hcbg are very nice. I actually prefer the Alps XN and heavy XN. I am really impressed with these and they require very little foot prep. I purchase these from Utmost and they are excellant to work with for Batson products.Shoot me an e-mail and /or phone # and I will get you more info on the blanks I use. I li

I use Seeker Blank for rods to fish for the same quarry on Kansas lakes. I have S870, S270h, bothin glass; CLBF 708 and CJB70F in Black Steel composite.Have caught many in the 20 - 40 lb range dragging cut bait and circle hooks. All would handle bigger fish but the the black steel blanks would really shine there. The 708 is faster than the70f but both are awesome catfish drifting rods. I have RDA

My main rod box on my Lund only holds 7' rods if I trim the 7'3" to 7' will I need to move up a power? The 8's will be no problem where I store them, only the 7'3"s. I like to use both length' s depending on the situation.

I normally drift with 2 oz and bait on Kansas lakes. I have a friend that fishes the Missouri River and will use 6 - 8 oz and bait. Will the 803 handle this and 50 lb+ fish? Thanks for the reply.

Interested in 2 builds. One for catfish in 5 - 20 lb. range and another for catfish over 20 lbs. Will be used drifting and dragging with circle hooks. Which Rodgeeks blank, can be either glass or composite, would work best?

Make that right blend of metallic fiber and silk. Very classy, holds up well , finishes well . Speaking of Silk Sparkle.

Fish hawk (YLI) Silk Sparkle works great with no color preserver. If fact I dont like it with color preserver. Been using it for several years with only favorable results. Classic appearance with right blend of silk and nylon.

I called Seeker and asked about blanks that would work for catfish and circle hooks. They recommended Black Steel blanks, composite with soft tip and powerful butt. I tried 4 of their live bait blanks and love them . Now I have 8 from their Black Steel line.

I think you will be pleased with the Seeker rod. You can call them and they are very helpful. I have 10 rods that I use for a variety of catfish applications built on Black Steel blanks and I really am impressed with the company.
