I'm looking for 2 piece blanks as close as possible to the nfc sj703 & 705 and would also like to find something in the middle - the equivalent of a a sj704 if they made one. I would go to a 3 piece blank if I needed to. These would be general purpose inshore. Mostly drifting & throwing 1/8-1/4 jigs with paddle tails, keel weights with swim baits, popping corks, some jerk baits,, i

Are the frames completely smooth or do they like an uncoated weave? Guides like to collect gunk and I wouldn't want to encourage that with textured guides

1st - Thank you all for the timely and helpful posts. My take aways: good results can be had using arbors, fiberglass tape, or masking tape. epoxy coverage is important. tacking down fiberglass with a glue makes it more manageable. I hated using fiberglass before, but used this trick this time and it was a breeze. I also cut my fiberglass into arbor sized strips. This made it more manage

Thank you all. I went with the fiberglass tape, cut into thinner strips to make arbors, pinned down with crazy glue and made sure to fill the gaps between the arbors. The alignment looks perfect. I appreciate all the help!.

This will be used for tarpon & snook. There is enough space where I could reem out and sand down foam arbors but it would be a pain to make them that thin. Should I use fiberglass tape instead? If so, any tricks for getting it centered and kept on center when sliding on the seat? Any other tricks that would help? As always, thank you all for your great help!

Hi - Looking for suggestions on a multipiece blank for a spinning rod throwing paddletails on 1/8 or 1/4 oz jigheads, twitchbaits, and popping corks (the cheap ones). 2 piece preferred over 3. ideally 7 to 7 1/2 foot. 3000 size reel. 10 lb braid, 20 lb leaders. Most of the specks will be about 15-20 inches, redfish and snook mostly in the 25-30 inch range, Some bigger fish but not buil

Hi How do you set rods up with attachment points for leashes? Want to protect gear if a kayak tips over. These will be lighter weight rods. I'm mostly looking at spinning set ups but also interested in casting rods. My preference is to have the leash attach at the rod with a clip as opposed to being a fixed attachment but interested in all ideas. As always - thank you for your advi

How do you pack up your rod collection to move safely and space efficiently? Fat ones, skinny ones, long ones, short ones....I don't even want to think about counting all the rods in my collection but there are a lot. How do you box them up to move? Thanks Jay

wrap them from the tip down. put down a wrap or 3 to start and act like a block and then use the next wrap down to hold the guide in place

the whole reason I started building rods was because I wanted travel rods I couldn't find in stores. For me, that now means a rod I can fit in a carry on rollerboard. Lots of choices in short length 4 piece in the very light blanks. less if you want heavier rods. last 2 i build were on rodgeeks blanks. I like those but they were set up spinning so not sure they will fit your application. What siz

how about a shorter 2 piece fiberglass blank and a removable butt extension like a lot of old boat rods had? Do you need the bend all the way thru the handle? Put a female socket on the handle. The pieces will be different lengths and maybe the action not exactly what you're looking for but maybe what you want.

I just posted 2 picks of a rod a broke today and would appreciate your thoughts on the cause. It broke on the backcast with an unweighted senko at the end of a full day's fishing. The break is almost exactly 1/2 way between the 3rd and forth guide. I've used this rod about 15 times for several hours each time. I used it for 4 hours today and caught several bass (nothing to brag about).

I was told that using single foot guides on a fly rod would slow the action vs using snakes. I would have guessed the opposite. (The snake guides are longer so I would think they would add a little stiffness, that this would affect the tip relatively more and move the load point further down.) What am I missing? Thanks in advance for your input.

Don't you want the level through the center of the blank? Just adjusting so that the rod stand is at the same level as the center of the drying chuck doesn't really make it level does it? I always level by eye since I haven't come up with a way to make an easy and accurate measure of level through the center of the blank. I guess I could put a level on top and bottom and match the bubble but thi

i've started wrapping the micros and some none micros down instead of up. do your blocking wraps, your twist to hold the guide, wrap down the foot and tie off. you can do this on any guide but the flatter the foot like with micros, the easier it is.

looking for 2 blanks (1 if possible) 1) for casting 1/8-1/4 jigs tipped with crawlers or leeches around weedlines and drop offs for walleye. most of the fish are in the 15-18 inch range so can be somewhat lighter. 6-8lb mono. casting distance can sometimes be an issue. 2) unweighted senkos - same general area. lm bass. 8-10lb mono or light braid. what do you like best? as always, tha

cowgirls, showgirls, bulldawgs, depth raiders, grandmas, shallow invaders, glide baits, top raiders, spooks - showgirls, grandmas, shallow invaders and top raiders make up about 50% of the casts...but if those aren't working than everything in the box is gonna get wet.
