I spoke to the man and he's wanting a 5 foot, 2 weight fly rod in a maroon / mauve color. He's targeting native brookies in the very small creeks here in the m

Gorilla Glue has a new CA glue out formulatedspecificly for this pupose. It says on the package that it is very flexible and withstands direct impact well. Should be able to pick it up at any home supply such as Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hadware, etc.......

I have built a few from the plans that Tom points to in the library section above and they work great. They can be built to any length you like, and can be made from scrap wood. One bit of advice I would give, is when you build the thread holder, build it so that the tension is applied to the spool instead of the thread itself. This cuts down on fraying of the thread.

If weight savings is the issue, you may want to think about false underwraps. By that. I mean wrap it so that it gives the appearance of having underwraps, when in fact, it does not.

Greg,
If you have a way to chuck up a drill bit in your Pac Bay wrapper, go to Backlash Tolls and buy one of their Pistol Grip devices and place you grip in that, and chuck that up in your wrapper then drill away. It will center it perfectly.

15. Re: Older blanks
Walt,
If you are talking about the True Temper or Bronson UniSpin rods, No they are no longer made. However, the blanks were just tubular fiberglass and can be easily replaced or repaired by doing an internal plug and external sleeve. I have repaired / restored / upgraded many of them including the Johnson models as well.

That "High END" of a rod, in your friends financial condition would be WORTH repairing if you do it correctly according to Ralph's article in the library above. If you need fiberglass scrap to do the repair I can help there just shoot me an email!!

One more question I will throw out there. I have a 2 wt request it will be a 6'6" for small stream native brookies. Whith regard to the Minima's, what is the smallest that will pass a 2 wt line. I have no clue what type connecting knots will be used or if any at all. I still need to talk more with the requestee.

Believe Tom, it's NOT hype, it happens!!!! I've been to the last 4 Expo's and at every one, I've seen different exhibitors with RodBuilders in their booths doing HANDS-ON!! Especially the NERBS booth, and others that escape me right now, but I'm sure they'll chime in and identify themselves!!
