You are all spot on. I’m turning burl block where I had rounded the corners on a belt sander. Laid into it with sureform to cut it down quickly and now I can see what’s happening - sureform is following original contour. All good, it was a practice piece anyway. Thanks again.

I have a section of a rod wrapper equipped with the alps upgraded chuck and the live center on the opposite end. My mandrel is 3/8 about 15 “ long. At high speed, everything looks great. No wobble at all. However , my grips are not coming out round. They are visibly OVAL! I’m using a sureform file, and, at the moment, turning burl cork. But, I have the same problem turning foam. I thought I’d ch

My soon to be forgotten and replaced rod building wall. I've got one wall on the west end of my 24 x24 shed. Wife took up the rest. With her stuff, that is. Building and enclosed space to replace this one. Gonna missed the great outdoors.

Yes. Some are coming off easily after about 3 seconds heat from a torch. Others won’t. I’m chunking those. Next I want to clean out residual glue from the tube. Or do I ?

I just got a batch of production rods that never left the reseller's warehouse due to having broken tips. I'm stripping the guides off to use for repairs and it occurred to me that I may could reuse the tops also. Anyone ever try this? I'm concerned that the heat to remove the guide may compromise the ring.

I have clients complaining that nut on Fuji ecsm is not tightening down on the shimano metanium reel foot. They’re shimming it with paper or a toothpick. Anybody else having this issue? Does anyone know the length on the foot?

I was casting a floating worm one day on my favorite bait caster and noticed that I was always casting to one side or the other of my target. Often as much as 3 feet. This had never happened before so obviously something was wrong. I investigated and found the tip was loose enough to rotate about 20 degrees either way but not loose enough to go flying off the end on a cast. Depending on the an

Looking for a source for heat shrink to be used in heat shrink method of carbon fiber grip making. Will be cut off and thrown away so I don’t want to use the high dollar heat shrink made for rod grips. Will any heat shrink work or does it need to be treated to release from the carbon fiber sleeve?

Thanks all. I’ll go to the old faithful (Fuji) and put on something even better. Chalk this one up to lesson learned. The NFC X-ray blank though is super saweeeeet! The soft grip is interesting also. Customer will let me know more on that. I’ll likely buy more of these blanks, but not for this reel seat.

This is from sea guides web site. Check out the 3rd Feature. It is a blank through, most reel seats are. But it is supposed to be an “exposed blank” Product Description New Concept Trigger Casting Reel Seat Ingenious design and unique shape Elaborate seat body and lighter weight increases rods performance. Blank-exposed design allows trigger finger to be in direct touch the blank to impro

This reel seat only comes in two sizes, 16 and 17, per Sea Guide’s web site. As an exposed blank seat, how is it to be mounted on rods other than one of those two sizes? I just took advantage of NFC’s offer on free grip and reel seat with the order of an X-ray blank. Got it really quickly. Only problem is the seat they sent fits at 5” from the butt. Not good on a 7’10” rod. The SG site says the

I'm with Michael. When MW first came out (not AT) I started using them and swore by them. When Fuji came out with KLH concept, I gave it a try. I see no advantage now of the MW over the Fuji system. My opinion only: Fuji.

.001 out of alignment? I don't think you're gonna shoot birds with it. Eyeball is good enough. I normally use an equal distant spacing on my rods (4,4,5,5,5,6,6,etc) and I measure each one of them. I can't count the number of times when my eye spotted a mistake in my measurements. So, trust your eye, that's all you or your customer is ever gonna use on the water. A second set of eyes never
