Hi All !
I have 3 rods to wrap, but I only have enough Gudebrod olive for one rod.
Reccomendations on a suitable replacement so all rods can be finished the same.
(Olive is the requested wrap)
Thanks in advance

I built a Dan Craft Green Rivers 9'5 wt, truly love the rod.
Unfortunately, I cannot get a back up, since it appears Dan's shop is closed.
Recommendations for a blank as similar to as possible
Thank you,

Thanks for the advice ! Decided on going with Fuji guides since my friend is rough and tumble on his equipment - he has no idea what cleaning his gear is.

Hi All,
it's been awhile. I've been tasked with replacing the guides on my friend's boat rods. Both are 5' fiberglass heavy duty rods with roller tops that are used for deep trolling on the finger lakes with steel line. (My friend is OLD SCHOOL - he will not fish any other way, and asking him not to use steel is non negotiable)
Would like to purchase a guide set for each that will hold up to

Hi All !
Just purchased 2 pac bay quickline 10'4 wt blanks. (4 pc) I am building "twins" for my friend and I to do some czech nymphing. I consulted the pac bay page on guide spacing for these rods and noticed that one of the guides will be on a ferrule (30").
While I understand this is OK....I am not a fan of it. I am hoping Geoff Staples or any other board member who has ex

Hi Guys,
It's been awhile, and I've got the itch.
Looking to build a 8'6" medium, to medium-slow action 5 weight
for trout fishing in the Northeast for a friend who likes the feel of
something a little slower, while still being graphite
Not looking to break the bank on a blank. Any suggestions would be appreciated from fellow-builders.

Kodiak Island would be correct.
Just in case there is a problem w/ travel restrictions, I would like to have some 4 piece rods
ready. I was thinking of going with a Dan Craft 9' 9wt 4 pc FT and a Tiger Eye 9' 4 piece 8wt saltwater blank,
full wells grips and auminum reel seats w/ fighting butts.

I made the decision to go to Alaska next year.
Would like input for recomendations of what rods I will need.
I realize that I will need 4 or 5 piece rods for travel, so I'll have to build since I
currently only have 2-piece rods.
Species will include all species of Salmon and Steelhead.
Brands, legnths, line wt, reel seat, guides, etc.
There would be nothing more wonderful than catchi

Tom,
Very astute observation !
I did notice several people fighting fish in that manner,
It is difficult not to "want" to reach forward, but it is incorrect to do so as you have pointed out.

Just returned from a salmon fishing trip (Salmon River, NY)
I noticed several people have their rods break at the butt ferrule (all were 4 piece fly rods, either 8 or 9 wt) while fighting fish. After speaking to the disgruntled owners, I gleened the following ino:
Sage VTS - 8wt
Cabelas Tradition - 9 wt
TFO Professional - 8 wt
Orvis T-3 9wt
All were used with the appropriate WF flyli

Attempting to build an ultra lite 7'6" 2 piece 4wt (Cabela's SLi)
Would like to get opinions on what reel seat to use.
1) I do not want to use any sliding band or cork and rings
2) uplocking or downlocking is fine
3) blank diameter at butt is .312
4) recoil guides will be used
Thanks for your input,
Tight lines,
Paul

1. Remember to put cap back on U-40 after you're finished
2. Do not allow a wet dog in the room you're drying a rod in
3. Don't get caught using your wife's sewing stuff for rod building
4.Never drink and epoxy at the same time

I have no preference for uplocking or down locking reel seats, either is OK w/ me.
Butt diameter of blank is .350

I am building a Cabela's SLi 8'6" 5wt (1.39oz) and am trying to make this the lightest 5wt outfit I can.
(It will be teamed w/ a Lamson-Waterwoks ULA P2 reel) Single foot recoil guides and now I'd like to add
a nice lightweight (preferably wood) reel seat - any suggestions ?

Does someone know the butt diameter of this blank ? (2 piece)
Just ordered one and want to make sure I get the correct reel seat.
Thanks,
Paul K.

If you don't want the guides to have a transparent look, use Zinsser "Bull's Eye" Shellac as your color preserver, (I use 2 light coats). Let dry thoroughly and then varnish the wraps

There was a great article on the subject in the June/July 2005 issue of In-Fisherman Magazine.
The article was written by Steve Quinn w/ Bill Bottger.
Their Preferred outfit was a 7 1/2' 2 wt. St. Croix Avid fly fod blank matched with a Diawa SS-II 1500C reel
I quote: " matched w/ 2lb test the rod cast lures as light as 1/100s of an ounce".

I've built Tiger-Eye, Batson, Pac-Bay, American Tackle, and Dan Craft.
Always looking to try something new.
I suppose it's like a golfer in search of the elusive "perfect driver"
or the bowler in search of the "perfect ball".
While we can debate about the merits of a perfect rod, it's the quest to find one that makes
rod-building such an enjoyable hobby.

I built a Rainshadow RX-7 \ 7'9" 3 wt.
Compared to a Loomis IMX or St. Croix Legend Ultra or a Sage XP - the RX-7 could be considered pedestrian.
However: I find it to be very efficient for its purpose - tossing tricos, midges and small ants to wary browns on smaller strams with gin clear water in the Summer when you need to make your presentation count. Using 7x tippet, the softer ac

24. fly logic blanks
I posted recently about Gatti blanks and from the advice I received, decided not to build one.
Anyone ever done anything with Fly Logic Optimus Plus series blanks ?
Looking for a 9' 5 wt for big water able to throw wooly boogers and big weighted stonefly nymphs (armored cars, as we call them) and still be able to toss out size 18 BWOs

Hi All,
Anyone ever build one of these in either a 8'6" 5wt or 9' 5wt ?
If so, how would you describe the action and would you reccomend building one ?
This will be used as a large water trout rod - both nymphing and dries.
