Give the MHX line of blanks a look. Good bang for the buck and a extensive selection of technique specific blanks. I also fish for smallmouth mostly on the Juniata River in central PA, also sometimes using neds. I have built rods on MHX blanks (along with many other brands) for myself and my friends and am very satisfied with their quality and performance. They stack up well with all of the

Ditto the CRB blanks. Inexpensive and just the right tool for the job for youth rods. Fairly bullt proof too!

I use the same thread tensioners and have them on a board (home made) mounted exactly like you do. The only difference between mine and yours is that i feed the thread from the spool directly into the tensioner, then to the eye bolt , then to the rod blank. I don't have the pins between the spool and the tensioner on my setup. I have built 56 or so rods and repaired 10 or 12 with these ten

I also have a couple hundred "foul proof" type guides in sizes from 50 to about 6, but I'm not sure they they are Aetna branded. I would need to see a pic of an Aetna guide.

Rear handle length will come into play with how you will be fishing the rod. If you are standing on a bass boat deck or bank fishing a slightly longer rear grip might be acceptable. Because of issues with my back I must sit to fish from my boat. I have found out a rear grip length over 7" - 8" is always tangling in my shirt or jacket while
retrieving my baits....a real pain i

Yes, Mudhole and Get Bit Outdoors in Oviedo (Orlando) have large inventories of blanks that you can put your hands on. Both places are very close together in location also. 2 birds with 1 stone! I have been in both places many times. Both are sponsors (list to left) of this website / forum. Check them out.

I store my unbuilt blanks in a couple of 6" diameter 7' long cardboard blank shipping tubes that have been hung horizontally on my open joist basement ceiling. I have stored as many 30 - 35 blanks in 2 tubes with lots of room to spare. Just remember to leave enough room at one end to slide the blanks in and out of the tubes.

I think that the Lamiglas LSJ781 would be a outstanding blank to build for light jigging. I used that blank to build a spinning rod for light ligging (1/16th oz to 1/8th oz neds and grubs) for Pennsylvania river sized smallmouth bass, and it's one of my favorites. It casts very well and has enough backbone to feel good fighting smallies both small and large. If you prefer a longer rod, ex

First choice Fuji. Second choice Batson / Alps / Forecast.
Also check Get Bit Outdoors (sponsor) for Fuji guides. I was recently in their shop and they filled almost all of my Fuji needs ! They also are a Batson dealer.
