I've seen black and red camo, but not black and orange. Check if Matagi has them, but I don't think so. Maybe some Winn grips might be the go if you absolutely need that colour combo (note, won't be camo though)?

I can definitely recommend CTS blanks for light and thin beach blanks, however they are pretty expensive. Another brand I've used in the past are blanks from DBlue Fishing (sponsor on the left).

Done, although I threw more options at him! The problem with this forum is that when you reply, it doesn't bring it back up the top.

Hey Ben, I'm from Australia too. I've built quite a few surf rods and one of my latest that I'm only halfway through is what would be considered light-medium that I plan to use for fishing off the rocks/surf for bream, whiting, flathead, dart etc. The blank I'm using is a CTS from NZ. It's stats are: CTS - SD901-4 - P2000 Finish - Elite SD - 4 piece - 9'0" - 6-10lb - 0.5-1oz They a

Hey Tom, for the past few days, I've been unable to load the photos page. It seems to keep infinitely displaying the header section and nothing else. I've tried a few different browsers (Firefox, Chrome, IE) with the same results.

I know there probably aren't many of you guys in the USA using these reels, but I just found out today that after nearly 100 years in business, Alvey Reels is closing its doors. Sad day for the Australian fishing scene as their reels have been part of nearly every fisho's life in some form or another. I've got 2 reels and unfortunately for Alvey, just don't die, they last a lifetime despite the

Expanding on what Bill said, take a look at the Fuji EWBC Weighted Butt Cap. I've used that on a couple of rods and by unscrewing the screw, you can add more remove the weighted discs to balance your rod.

I would suggest you look at a Batson Forecast RX6 SB-720-4 blank. It packs down extremely small (being 4 pieces) and is 6'6" long and would work quite well for what you want. I have 3 of them all made up as spinning rods paired with either a Shimano Sienna 500 or 1000 sized reel and the combo is great for panfish.

Anyone know where and when the new 2016 Pac Bay Minima guides will be released? Specifically I'm after the Titanium BlackTi Model F guides and the Model MFT Fly tiptops.

The Matagi supplied blank is specifically called the LESSON PT Super Eight-H. I'm using a blank made by a company called Samurai and its called the Premium Squid. It's a little shorter than you want, but I find its a very nice blank for eging and the height deficit is not an issue in real world usage (I too wanted to get a 8'-8'6" blank originally). You can get it from The RodWorks (s

Haven't seen anyone discussing these grips. Got sent an email from getbitoutdoors advertising these new grips - Anyone used them? Not sure of the longevity, especially in saltwater, but I'd like to hear from anyone who has used them.

Yes absolutely, used it many times before for that purpose and it was fine.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Being in Australia, I've never met Mike face to face, but have talked to him numerous times via email, especially in my early days of rodbuilding, and the information he has given me has been invaluable.

From Col's recommendation, I put my order in for a 4 piece 11' rod for surf/rock fishing. Can't wait to get mine and build it up!

L usually means the guide height is lower than the standard J version. How much, lower, not sure, consult Anglers Resource to find out the guide heights.

Hi Guys, I'm looking for a Lamiglas GSB 120 4M blank which is as follows: 10' length, 4 piece, 12-25lbs line range, 2-4oz lure range, 0.878 butt, 9 tip, and weight 5 13/16oz. Anyone know of other blanks in the 10-11 foot range that is at least 3, preferably 4 pieces with similar stats to the above? Thanks, Michael.

Its a ring usually made of metal, rubber (and plenty of others items too) that make a transition between the rod blank and the grips or reel seat or buttcap.

Only thing you'd need to watch out for is the UV resistance of the mono line. Depending on how long its out in the sun for, you'd probably be re-wrapping it more often than using normal thread.

Maybe you just got an odd coloured batch of the original BMNAG's? I've never seen a BMNAG like that that wasn't a SiC ring. From that picture it definitely looks like gunmetal grey to me.

That's great Ross, saves me the hassles of trying to get Matagi parts now. I'll be placing an order shortly with you for the grips and winding checks.

I've been meaning to ask you guys how you do trim bands. This may is much better than my dodgy method which involved a piece of cardboard with two V's cut out and some trim thread wrapped around it multiple times. I then use masking tape to temporarily hold it to the blank, which sometimes results in it either falling off at the wrong time or sticking to the thread and making me wish I had 3 ar

Thanks for the replies guys. I kind of knew it wouldn't look anything special, but I was hoping it would :) Maybe I'll try just black nylon with a tiny bit of ultra fine glitter. Billy, I can't load up the link you provided (I think some censoring is going on with that link).

G'Day guys, Does anyone have any photos they could put on the photo site or direct me to one's already on there that show how metallic black looks once the epoxy has been applied. My new rod I'm building is based on a St Croix SCII blank which is a pearl black in colour and I'd thought metallic black overbinds would look quite fitting. Thanks.

Use some lint free coffee filter paper that has been dipped into some denatured alcohol. This will give you a nice clean edge without introducing dust into the epoxy.

What about a matt blank like a G. Loomis IMX? I have one of those and another blank that is matt, so I was worried what car polish would do to it since I don't want it to be shiny or patchy looking.
