I use three 3/4”. One near each end and one in the center.

What Terry said. Waterslide fingernail decals are the way to go.

What Michael and Tom said. And, I orient on the underside (opposite of guide).

Smart choice!

RBS Pro G2. I went with it because I felt like it had more bang for buck. I also prefer the stands over other brands (I bought the kit). The only other option I considered was the Alps. That said, If money were no object, I’d have likely gone with the Renzetti, but it cost around $1500 -$1600. That system is built like a brick outhouse, but out of my budget.

8. Re: line rub
It's not ideal and, if you're @#$%& bent on eliminating it, it can be fixed by adding and/or re-positioning a couple of guides. That said, if it were me, I wouldn't worry about it. It's not hurting anything as it's a bass rod. It's not like you're trying to crank in a 50 pound fish.

I do something similar.

Powder, assuming it works as well, would be a vast improvement over the sticks, IMO.

I haven’t had any issues. Full disclosure, I only build bass rods.

Along with what Tom said, if you’re a visual person (I am), there’s also a good video on FlexCoat’s website with Roger Seider demonstrating how he does it with a chop saw.

I recommend you watch Flex Coat’s video on mixing and applying their product and follow that to the letter. I did and I have never experienced any issues. That said, I quit using Flex Coat in favor of Gen4. There’s nothing wrong with Flex Coat and if that’s all I could get, I would happily use it. But, Gen4 is better.

I just read the specs on the 701. It looks like it would be a good choice. I think I would prefer the 69 if I were building for myself. I would prefer the shorter blank.

I don’t have any personal experience with any of the other specific blanks you mention. But, it appears, when you eluded to “inconsistencies”, that you’ve done your due diligence as far as research. My research found the same thing. As far as cost difference, I firmly believe in an old saying that goes “Buy once, cry once”, meaning pay the extra money and be done with it. Again, I don’t offshore

Out of the blanks you listed, I’d go with the PB. I built one of those for my brother and he loves it. I don’t normally fish off shore (just not my thing) so I don’t carry a rod in the boat for it. That said, I borrowed his on a particular trip and was quite happy with how it fished. I was fishing a drop shot.

I like to start at the end of the guide foot and work my way toward the tunnel. This is so the excess ends up there. Once I see the epoxy soaking into the area, I go back and try to take off as much epoxy as I can. IMHO, too many builders go over board on the epoxy, especially the first coat.
Disclaimer: I mostly build light weight bass fishing rods.

If you end up building one, I’d love to hear your thoughts after you fish it. I almost went with the PB761HM for a swimbait rod I’m going to build for myself. I decided to go a different route only because I wanted to be able to throw a little heavier lure (up to 4 oz). I also wanted a little longer blank.

I’m with Norman. It’s not about the weight, it’s the cost for me. I also cut senkos in half versus buying Ned rig worms. I guess it’s just the bean counter (retired CPA) in me.

The number one thing you could get to upgrade your setup, IMO are the rod stands. I HIGHLY recommend the RBS Pro Stands at Mudhole, or similar. They make wrapping WAY easier whether you’re hand wrapping or using a power wrapper.

You can learn all of the basics by watching videos at Mudhole, or FlexCoat. They both have excellent learning videos on their respective websites.

Optimally, you’d put the next coat on sooner, but you’ll be fine doing it now. It’s not going to hurt anything.
