Another resource for the "definite process" for applying a second layer after 48 hours is to contact the manufacturer of the epoxy you used. They have all been excellent at replying to emails or even called me to discuss my question. As you can see from the replies there's a lot of different processes that all work based on people's experiences. Key is to find the one that works f

Bruce, Instead of the EVA I used the American Tackle G2 carbon handle butt cap assembly (G2HBC). It fit in my XO skeleton casting grip.

The following older topic had some of the heights for REC guides. They didn't have the 25 and 20 so I did some quick measurements for the 25 and 20 RSPG Recoils. I did these quick so they should be a decent representation of the height. #25 - 36.5 mm #20 - 31.5 mm REC did announce at last years ICAST that they were coming out with higher framed guides. Their website in the spo

If you haven't done any epoxy work on thread wraps a good start would be to practice on some wooden dowels of different sizes (or something similar) I say that because a lot of questions on here are about epoxy. Also there are different ways of doing almost anything. Doing some practice before just jumping in on the first rod will let you see what works best for you and make it easier for

I don't think Edge sands all their rods. My Silver Widows are unsanded and the Edge website for Silver Widows has the following: "HMx-ray comes with in un-sanded, flat matte-black finish. Sanding blanks makes them softer, the action of these blanks is crisp." The pictures of a couple of the C6O2 rods, such as the MB725 casting, on the Edge website look like they still have th

I would call NFC and ask them for their installation recommendation or instructions. How big is the palm swell? Is it as large as the Aero 16 seat or is it smaller like the Fuji IPS?

David, I only have the XO casting version, not the spinning version. So, I don't know if this will help or not but here's what I have for the casting version. I made a tape arbor and the ID of the slender portion was 12 mm. The casting seat didn't slide all the way to the end of the blank on the MB724 Xray. It stopped about 12 inches from the butt of the blank. With a SJ703 Xray,

Michael, The damping should be what's causing the rod to "come to rest" For those who want to go down the rabbit hole of understanding dynamics, Siemens has a good introduction to vibration. There's also a good video in the article. There's a lot of topics regarding dynamics and how it relates to fishing rods. But it's time to pack up the gear so I can go fishing tom

I've used my SB724 a few times and like it. My friend tried mine and also likes it. But he prefers rods at 7'0" or 6'10" to make them easier to transport in his truck. Has anyone cut 2 inches or 4 inches off the butt end of the SB724? Did cutting it significantly change the feel of the way it casts and fishes?

Here's a couple quick measurements of the ID of the REC single foot to compare to other running guides you may have used. Size 6, ID = 3.83 mm Size 7, ID = 4.65 mm I don't have experience with braid and recoils. I typically use mono or floro. I've used the size 6 as runners on a casting rod and like them. As another reference, on an older G Loomis GLX crankbait CBR 855 I have, th

If you want to check to see if there's any significant damage that's not visible you could do a simple tap test. Take a coin like a nickel and lightly tap the blank away from the damaged area and then progress to around the scratched area. If the sound is different near the scratch, you might have some significant impact damage such as delamination of the plies. While not as good as other

For the label area use some light lengthwise brush strokes. That helps even out any slight waves over the label for me. Bill Falconer has a video showing how to do it.

Did you measure the weight as you were building these? The ML blank weight per the PB website is 1.58 oz and the Med is 1.76 oz Since they were built the same, the weight might help you figure out if you mixed them up.

It looks like you have added some colors to the carbon fiber locking hood covers. If you could add color options to the KDPS16 NFCG623CO1 that would be appreciated. Not shown but color options for full length handles would also be nice, even if limited colors

When you remove the guide check for anything that doesn't look right. Such as, check the tunnels to see if the epoxy filled the tunnels.

Bill Falconer has a couple of good videos on YouTube. The first one shows how to do long wraps. The light horizontal brush strokes helped make mine look a lot better. "How to Apply Custom Rod Butt Wrap Finish the FCR Way" The second video shows a lot of similar steps to what people have already provided on fixing the finish. Daryl, thanks for the update. Wish you had found a hood that would have worked. I have one of the Berkley Shock rods at my friend's lake house we use as a guest rod. He just checked it and the hood is cracked on that one. Mine's going to turn into rod to practice repairs or different wraps with. So between the reviews Norm found, the ones on the Berkley website and my experience you mi

With the clear reel seat, you probably have the Berkley Lightning Shock rod. On the Berkley website there is quite a few reviews for the shock rod where people have experienced locking nut failures. So even if you could get a replacement nut from Berkley you probably wouldn't want to use it if it's the clear one. In the pictures it looks like the slot in the threads is on the side. Mayb

If you still have the runny epoxy in the cup you might be able to check if you used two parts of hardener or resin. One way could be to split the runny epoxy in half Add some resin to one half and some hardener to the other half If one sets up but not the other you probably used only hardener or resin

Maybe the only potential for any minor weight due to paint could be painted no name guides on @#$%& or Amazon. But i would stick with the name brand guides.
