Hi. I am looking for guidance for a bottom bouncing rod blank. I don’t own a boat, so whenever I am on my buddy’s boat I am holding the rod. So the lighter the better. I bounce 3oz at most. I’m not looking for the best bang for the buck, I am looking for what is arguably the most light and sensitive.
I am using a light baitcaster (maybe 5.5oz) that’s why I am looking for a light blank. Whenev

Spinning. I am a round reel lover, but when I jig or Ned rig for walleye it’s all about that ML rod with a spinning reel.
Unless you’re doing heavy inshore fishing, I highly recommend Daiwa tatula. ESP for lighter stuff. It’s rugged, can take a beating and is just as light as a Vanford.

Maybe I’ll give the Tranx a shot. Thing is I just cast a rig from shore and then sit and wait. If I was constantly casting, say for musky then I’d probably be less weary of going the low pro route.
I tend to backlash low pro reels way more than round reels. For some reason I really like Abu reels
For low pro. But lexa’s and curado I backlash. People didn’t believe me until I backlashed a Lexa

What’s the difference between the two. I looked them up but couldn’t tell.

Are all of rod geek’s blanks made by St. croix in their Mexico factory? I love st. Croix! I have their bottom bouncing “legend tournament” rod was well as their Legend Extreme in both medium and medium-light.

This might be old news, but they discontinued the Shimano Calcutta 400b. I’m so upset and since I found out last month I have been squiring some, I now have 3. I love that reel. I wish there was a worthy substitute but I am not fond of the c4 from Abu (c3 is different, but imo it’s no calcutta). Maybe I’m just being a reel snob, but it is what it is.

Hi. I am American and usually have my rods made by American rod builders and sent up to where I am in Canada. Nothing against Canadians, I am just a proud American lol. Anyway, up here everything is Rainshadow/Alps. How are the Alps products? Do they make good guides? Their reel seats look good, however they are aluminum and last time I posted about aluminum reel seats on here I was overwhelmingl

10. Re: Rod Geeks XC
Yes it is the two piece. It’s a great rod, it’s just the components I don’t like.

I have an ugly stick tiger ML in 8’ and a 7’ M. I’m looking to get a custom rod made for the medium light. I’m looking at the Rod Geeks XC. I cast from 3-6oz then sit and wait.
Edit: on my ugly stick tiger medium light it’s rated to 4oz. I bomb 6oz with it all the time and have zero issues.
Edit #2: my rod builder is currently building me a rod for lake sturgeon that casts 1-8oz and is medi

I’m in the same boat kind of. I have an ugly stick tiger medium light 8’ and I like the rod but I hate the components. The reel seat comes loose when I start fighting a fish, the guides don’t feel so smooth and the foregrip has some play in it. I can’t find any other medium light, non broom stick blanks out there. I am fine with just fibreglass too.

I am not a rod builder. However every rod I have made for me I use the American Tackle microwave guides.
According to my research Fuji K series guides are really good too.

I cast with it yesterday. It soared, what a rod! It handled everything no issues at all. In fact I was over casting (I fish from shore) so I had to thumb it down!!!
I can’t thank you guys enough!
Edit: the reel is a calcutta 400b.

15. Why is this?
Hi guys. So I made a post yesterday about casting with a trolling rod. I was wondering why many people say you can’t cast a trolling to it’s rated lure weight. Is the blank constructed differently? Does it have to do with rod response in specific situations (for example, bottom bouncing)?

Nevermind guys I found a use! Thank you so much for helping me out. I’m gonna try it vertical jogging for lake trout as it is the length, power and action my buddy recommended for lake trout jigging!

I would be casting a slip rig with a 4oz pyramid weight casting full force with a shimano calcutta reel and 50lb braid.

Thank you guys so much. I think I might have a use for this rod, other than what I was intending it for. I just got to talk to my buddy see if it will work for lake trout trolling. If they have no idea because I fish for lake sturgeon, walleye and pike,

I spoke to mud hole and they said if I change the guides I should be able to cast 3-4oz no problem as the rod is rated to 5oz.

21. Help
Hi guys. I bought a GLoomis 982c HSR after talking to a retailer. They told me it was fine to cast with, that it wasn’t just a trolling rod. Well I got the rod in the mail today and the guides are real small like a trolling rod. It’s rated for 1/2-5oz. I normally cast 3-4oz. If I get the guides taken off and have new ones put on, will that make it more cast friendly or am I screwed?

Hi. I was just wondering when or if torzite becomes a desirable material for guides? I’m fishing with 50lb braid and fighting lake sturgeons (anywhere from 2-5, maybe 6ft). I am having another rod built for me and can ask Erik K, but I’d like some input before I go to him.
Does the torzite rings make the sensation of a fish bite more sensitive?

Hi. I was just wondering if anyone makes a stand out fibreglass blank? I can do the research if I get a few good brands to look into, I just need a starting point!

I thought rod geeks use to have a huge color selection. I know my rod builder can make a rod with any color I want using a NFC blank.

If the microwave air guides are the ones with the smaller guide inside the bigger guide, I just had a rod built for me using those. But mine is for casting swimbaits, so I have a casting rod not a spinning rod.
When I casted with it last night at the river just to see how it felt, it felt real nice. But again I have zero science to back it up.

I just got my first custom rod made for me. am I allowed to post pics and say who made it for me on the forum?
Edit: the reason I didn’t learn to make it myself is because I just don’t have the desire yet to make it myself. I still love and respect the art of making a rod. Plus I see its benefits. Plus I’m having my first child in a month so new hobbies aren’t really a thing right now.
