I think I remember what they were - Outside vs Inside when locating the static spine on a black. Not sure if it was exactly Out Side Curve At Rest or not. Any idea? Thanks.

In another post below I was wanting info to build my grandson a red fishing rod. The Daiwa QR 750 reel I ordered for him came yesterday and it’s a sweet little gem. So I decided to go to Cabelas this morning and look at 5 1/2’, 6’ and 6 1/2’ light rods to get an idea of the proper length. I just had to laugh. Here were these ultra light rods with the same weight reel I had bought, and the guid

Thanks Joe, I really want to do a red blank since he’s into Mario and Sonic. I just ordered the Daiwa QR reel in red and silver so I want to stay with that theme. To him it’s looks and not necessary function. He does have a more stout rod with a spinach reel for down at the river.

It’s been a while since I’ve built a rod and want to make one for my 6 year old grandson. I’ve forgotten a lot but since he loves red I thought the 6’ CRB from Mudhole would do. He’s most likely to catch crappie in lakes but they do live on a river but I’m not sure what’s in there. I’d actually like a light 2 piece mod fast but bot sure where to find one. Thanks.

Beckett is into the Mario Brothers big time and the RodGeeks blanks can be ordered in a two-tone finish for an extra $20. With the butt half blue and the top half red, I should be able to make a 6 1/2' 2 piece rod in the Mario Brothers theme. I'd prefer a spin cast reel if I can find a good on

I've built fly rods for all of my grandkids and I need to make one more for the last boy. Nobody in my family fly fishes anymore so I'd like to build an ultra light spinning for a 4 year old for Christmas. I've been away from rod building for some time so I'm not sure of what brands/models are available, but I would like some around 5 1/2 - 6" for crappie type fishing. Thanks.

I used to salmon and steelhead fish with a fly rod. Then I moved to a spinning rod. But I built 3 spiral wraps to use with a Daiwa casting reel and would never waste my time using anything else. The advantage of the casting reel is by using my thumb as the brake I can't place the offering on the exact spot I want to. I can't do that with a spinning reel. I made a 13' Talon float rod but could

In the "Spinning Rod Guide Sizing and Placement" tutorial for butt guide distance, it lists 18" - 22" from the spool face for freshwater rods. Also, it says "Typically, the larger the spool diameter, the further from the spool face the guide will be located". So I assume the smaller the spool face, the closer to the spool face the guide will be. I'm going to use

Well duh - I've lived in Saline (just south of Ann Arbor) for the past 35 years. Since I've always seen their school in the same colors as Michigan - yellow pants and helmets, dark blue jerseys - I thought their colors were the same. Come to find out that they're actually blue and gold. Since I WILL NOT be building anything that resembles Notre Dame, it will be a Michigan theme for sure . . .

I only see yellow Gudebrod threads in Lemon Yellow and Goldenrod. I assume the Goldenrod would be better suited for a "Maize and Blue" Michigan theme? Thanks.

I was able to order a Rainshadow IP904F 2 piece blank today. I built the same IP904 in a one piece which my wife commandeered when she landed her first salmon with it. I think this one will work great for my grandson.

Mostly wading in a rather swift current river. Move out away from the bank and throw drifts over gravel and into holes and pools.

We took my 10 year old grandson salmon fishing a week ago and he was a blast to see casting. He was using my 8 1/2' Gloomis STR fast action which was almost a bit more rod than he can handle. He did hook one for a few seconds but had it stayed on, the rod length and fast action may have done him in. I would like to build him something that's a bit more friendly for his stature to use AND land

Not sure if it really needs to be that close. When I catch a fish on my GLX 3wt, the first 12"-18" of the rod is pointed straight at the fish.

This is starting to sound like the movie Groundhog's Day. Why can someone take my above data, compare it to "their" 100 rod calculations, and relate what the data from my rod indicates? I'm not trying to find fault but it seems there are times this forum is long on generalities but is short on specifics. What the numbers mean to me is irrelevant, I'd like to know what they mean to an ex
